THE FAMILY OF HAZEL lEW BROWN MISS HELEN LOGAN Graveside services for Miss Helen Logan, 70, who died Tues- day at her home of an apparent heart attack, were conducted Friday morning at 11 o’clock from Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery by Rev. J.C. Goare. Eastern Star memorial rites were held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. at Masonic Temple. Miss Logan was a retired Kings Mountain school teacher and guidance counselor. She had been long active in the Eastern Star and was a former Worthy Matron in addition to other high offices state and locally. She is survived by her brother, L.M. Logan. Harris Funeral Home had charge of arrangements. VESTER CONRAD RIPPY Funeral services for Vester Conrad Rippy, 80, of 108 N. Dilling St., who died Wednesday morning at his home, were con ducted Friday morning at 11 o’clock from Masters Funeral Home by Rev. C.A. Bost and Rev. Gerald Weeks, interment following in Mountain Rest Cemetery. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Geneva Ham Rippy; four daughters, Mrs. Margaret Davis, Mrs. Mildred Gladden and Mrs. Peggy Rowell, all of Kings Mountain, and Mrs. Mae Ham- bright of Y ork, S.C.; a brother, Frank Rippy of Kings Moun- Vandals Hit On Halloween tain; a sister, Mrs. Maude Mc- Curry of Shelby; 18 grand children and 18 great grandchildren. Halloween vandalism was heavy in the Kings Mountain area and police were kept busy as reports of cuttipg tires and eg ging of vehicles made the even ing unpleasant for many citizens. According to Kings Mountain Police Deftartment clerk Marti Southards the incidents includ ed: Breaking and Entering at First Presbyterian Church, reported stolen were a bank bag contain ing one check, paperweight and magic marker. Louise Lybrand reported larceny of a battery, valued at $60. Inez Crowley of N. Roxford Road reported that tires on her automobile were cut. Barbara Vess, of Charlotte, reported that her automobile was damaged by rockthrowing vandals on Watterson St. Rock throwing vandals also damaged an automobile operated by Jack Martin, of 104 Marigold St., as he was traveling on Watterson St. Lloyd Wiggins of Bessemer Ci ty reported the theft of a CB, a pocket calculator and six smok ing pipes from his car, estimated loss, $168. Helen Marlowe, of Shelby, reported that machines at Pied mont Washerette were vandaliz ed and an undetermined amount of cash stolen. Tires were cut on automobiles parked at Dilling Heating Co., estimated damage $400. Kay Taylor, of 803 Williamsburg Court, reported that her pocketbook was stolen containing credit cards, personal checks and $60 in cash. Margaret Byers, Route 3, and Michael Woods of Landing St. reported that tires were cut on their vehicles while they were at work at Sadie Mills. Philip Henning, of Monroe, reported that three tires were cut on his 1980 Pontiac while the car was parked at KM Country Club. Joyce Ware, of Gastonia, reported that her car was struck by a brick or rocks as she travel ed on Cansler St. Estimated damages were $250. Noah Causby, of 102 Center St., reported that his car was “rocked” as he traveled on Cansler St. Barbara Dixon, of Shelby, reported that a tire was cut on her car and her vehicle was “egg ed”. The Pantry, on Linwood Rd., reported the theft of three books from a newsstand. MRS. SALLIE EDENS Funeral services for Mrs. Sallie Hogan Edens, 81, of 201 Parker St. who died ^turday morning at 11 o’clock at Kings Mountain Hospital after several years illness, were conducted Monday afternoon at 3 p.m. from Kings Mountain Baptist Church of which she was a member, interment following in Mountain Rest Cemetery. Rev. J.C. Goare officiated at the rites. Mrs. Edens was a native of McDowell County, daughter of the late Joseph Thomas and Fannie Pridmore Hogan. She was widow of Christopher Col umbus (Shorty) Edens. Surviving are three sons, Howard Edens, Jr. of Denver, Colorado, C.C. Edens, Jr. of Mount Holly and Lt. Col. Robert H. Edens of Shaw Air Force Base, Sumter, S.C., two daughters. Miss Frances Edens and Miss Naomi Edens, both of Kings Mountain; one brother, Ben Hogan of Pacolet, S.C.; one sister, Mrs. George Moore of Pickens, S.C., nine grand children and two great grandchildren. Harris Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. MRS. W.F. RHODES FRAMINGHAM, Mass. — Mrs. W.F. Rhodes, Kings Mountain native, died Sunday at the age of 84. She resided at 446 Old Connecticut Highway. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Barber and widow of William Francis Rhodes. Surviving are her son, W.F. Rhodes Jr. of Athens, Ga., and her daughter, Mrs. Helen Rhodes Jackson of Fram ingham.
