Season Is
Underway
Fall fire season began official
ly on October 13 and will last un
til December 13.
Historically, the major cause
of wild fires in North Carolina
has been debris burning. This in
cludes household trash, brush,
rubbish, garbage and “fall
leaves", ‘^^elessness” is the
cause of wild fires in almost all
cases, according to Acting Coun
ty Ranger, John J. Hunt.
This year, as in past years, a
burning permit will be needed
for any outside burning. This
burning permit law was enacted
to help reduce the number of
wild fires caused by debris burn
ing by spelling out the respon
sibilities of each citizen or com
pany to control their outdoor
burning, continues Hunt.
Burning permits will be issued
for a maximum of a four-day
period. A burning permit is not
required for any burning bet
ween the hours of 4 p.m. and
midnight. Hunt pointed out that
compliance with this law does
not relieve the permittee from
having to abide by air quality
regulations or any local burning
ordinances.
A list of authorized burning
permit ^ents for Cleveland
County is as follows: Emerson
Pruett’s Store, Casar; Flay
Willis’ Store, Belwood; Sam’s
Mini Mart, Polkville; Martin
Milling Company, Lattimore;
J.R. Green, Magistrate’s office.
Boiling Springs; Hambright’s
Hardware, Grover; Bridges
Hardware, Kings Mountain;
Waco Stop and Shop, Waco; N
& W Grocery, Hi^way 18
North of Shelby; Wright’s
Jewelry, Fallston; Davis
Jewelry, Shelby; and Cleveland
county Forester’s office in the
County Office Building.
