A Kings Mountain truck
driver, Herman Wright, will be
competing for the national lift
truck driving championship in
Decathlon 3 at the Rivergate
Convention Center, New
Orleans, LA, Nov. 15.
Wright, an employee of
Lithium Corporation, Bessemer
City, earned his way to the finals
by winning the local decathlon
sponsored by Industrial Truck
Sales and Service, Charlotte,
NC. He will be facing 35 other
winners of local decathlons held
in the United States and Canada
for the $5,000 first prize and the
championship trophy. Prizes and
trophies also are awarded for se
cond through fifth places.

Battle Creek, Ml, and its par-
ticiapting dealers, consists of TO
events involving maneuvering
lifting, traveling and stacking
operations that stimulate on-the-
job conditions. Aisles, walls and
obstacles are defined by pallets
standing on end, or other
markers, and points are deducted
for striking or overturning
pallets or markers.
Points also are deducted for
violating established safety prac
tices. Standard times are
designated for each event and
penalty points are deducted for
failure to complete each event
within the standard time.

William Mears, an employee of
General Motors Assembly Divi
sion, Oakland, CA, did not
qualify in this year’s local
Decathlon.
The purpose of the Clark
Decathlon program is to pro
mote safe, productive lift truck
operating practices and to
recognize the professional
capabilities of lift truck operators
who help keep America moving.

American Legion Auxiliary.
