Attorney Kakassy argued that county voting procedures as con ducted at the Nov. 4 election were in violation of state law, that write-in candidates were "non partisan” candidates, neither Democratic or Republican, and that no official ballot should have been rejected because of a technical error. He maintained that some of the of- • ficials working the polls were unaware the three write-in can didates, Crawford, John Caveny Jr. and Duran Johnson, were non partisan candidates and “therefore counted the ballots improperly.” Kakassy pointed out that in Shelby No. 3 precinct eight votes were counted for write-ins, yet he had 12 affidavits signed by 0 persons who cast votes there for write in candidates. Secretary Crosby, a Kings Mountain lawyer, called for the board to go into executive ses sion at 11:15 a.m. to confer with their attorney, Robert W. Yelton, and the board returned about 15 minutes later to an nounce that legal matters were ^discussed without action. " Mr. Crosby then presented the Election Board’s findings and their conclusion of the facts presented at the hearing and recapped the testimonies offered from persons present and from those supplied by sworn af fidavits. Bobby Crawford, who read a two page statement, said that his • purpose was not to make a per sonal protest against any member of the board of elec tions, registrars, judges, counters or other poll workers. “I want to express my personal and the Association’s appreciation for the overall conduct and coopera tion we received from you dur ing a very tiring and strenuous ^election day. We are very happy b Vand proud of the strong support we received county wide ex pressed by the number of write in votes.” “On Wednesday morning, my telephone and Bruce Seism’s began to ring, to my surprise, most of them were concerning ir regularities at the polls. As per sons all across Cleveland County continued to call, it became very Obvident that the irregularities were numerous and serious enough to possibly change the election results for county com missioners.” KMLT MEETING The Kings Mountain Little Theatre will hold a brief meeting at 7 pjn.
