BANE BONHAM ...celebrate anniversary Bonhams Celebrate Golden Wedding Day The Creative Drama Class and the Drama Club, directed by Mrs. Betsy Wells, performed five excerpts from John Steinbeck’s play, “Of Mice and Men.” Members of the cast were David Rhea, Toasty Hardin, Mark McSwain, Phil Wright, Brad Curtis, Tommy Eubanks, Peb bles Whetstine, Sandy Horn, Brad Curtis and Gaye Caveny. Other club memers were assign ed to designated committees. Pam Jackson, Sheryl Goode, Karen Dixon, Cathy Lovelace, Eddie Hammett and Leigh Howell were responsible for props and staging. Members of the make-up and Costuming Committee were Deborah Carpenter, Margaret Grant, Suzanne Thornburg and Myra Jenkins. Ginger Martin, Toasty Hardin, Carolyn White, Sandy Bachelor, Dana Horne, Linda Gsellman and Mary Anne White wrote, printed and distributed the programs. Publicity Commit tee members were Suzanne Thornburg, Duane Brazzell, Deborah Carpenter, Todd Weaver, Gina Bell, Wanda Witherspoon, Philip Wright, and Ann Tate. Kris Gatts, Margaret KMHS News By JANICE SCOGGINS Mr. and Mrs. Bane Bonham of Matthews, formerly of Kings Mountain, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Dec. 23, 1980. Myrtle Hartsoe of Kings Mountain and Bane Bonham of Grant, Virginia were married in Independence, Virginia in 1930. Mr. Bonham is a retired truck driver for McCoy’s Company. A surprise reception honored the couple at Hartis Grove Bap tist Church Fellowship Hall and was hosted by their daughter, Mrs. Jack T. (Betty) Parker of Indian Trail. The Bonhams have four grandchildren, Vicki Thomas of Hawaii, Jackie Parker of Monroe and Chris and Tobby Parker of Indian Trail, N.C. Wedding cake was served with punch to 100 friends who called during the reception hours. Hall Of Fame Banquet Set The annual North Carolina American Legion Baseball Hall of Fame Banquet will be held January 24 at 7 p.m. at McKin non H^l on the campus of N.C. State University. Ted Williams, Major League Hall of Famer and the last player to hit .400, will be the guest speaker. Williams will also hold a baseball batting clinic at 6 p.m. for interested high school and American Legion players. Cost of the clinic will be $3. Any persons interested in ob taining tickets for the banquet may call Carl Wilson at 739-5878. SUPPER A covered dish supper will be held by the congregation of Dix on Presbyterian Church Sunday night at 6 p.m. in the church fellowship hail at which time the 1980 budget will be presented. Kings Mountain Little Theatre judges are accepting try outs for “Off With His Honorable Head” on Tuesday and Thursday at Park Grace School. The January Beta Club meeting will be held in the auditorium tonight at 7:30. The SPO (Student Participa tion Organization) is selling license plates which read “Kings Mountain Mountaineers” and feature a Mountie Mascot, for $2.00 each. Members of the community can also purchase the plates. Senior Directory Activities Sheets listing all seniors’ ac tivities and honors were distributed for completion for Yearbook publication last week. Those seniors who have not completed the activities sheets should see Joe Rountree. KMSH Cheerleaders presented a pep rally for the R-S Central Basketball Game Tues day. In addition to pep rallies, cheerleaders ar^ decorating basketball players’ lockers this year. All MHSHS students will follow an exam schedule Mon day and Tuesday. On Monday, ist, 3rd and Sth period exams will be distributed, and on Tues day 2nd, 4th and 6th period ex ams will be given. Students will be permitted to leave campus for a 45 minute lunch period both days. Fifteen students recently com pleted a Beginners Class in Cake Decorating at Kings Mountain Community Center. Instructing the class was Mrs. Joan Carroll. Baking, trimming and fun damentals of decorating featured the class which was conducted under sponsorship of Cleveland Tech. A new class will be held in February, and if there is enough interest a morning class will be scheduled, also at the Communi ty Center. Pre-register by calling Mrs. Carroll at 739-7683. Registration is $5. Completing the recent cake decorating school were Betty Bennett, Nancy Gault, Carrie Feemster, Cindy Brown, An nette Whitaker, Joyce Hoyle, Martha Bennett, Sandy Jones, Brenda McDowell, Sharon Ruley, Lorene Edwards, Deborah Feemster, Ellen Stephens, Roxanne Powell and Brenda Stewart. Tim Echols, former math teacher at Ashbrook, filled the vacated Algebra 1, and Algebra II position last week. School was dismissed at 12:50 Monday because the school heating system needed repairs. The Family of Bertie Lee Horne express its heartfelt thanks and sincere appreciation to the many friends and neighbors for their kind expres sions of sympathy, beautiful floral arrangements, food, and cards at the loss of our beloved wife and mother.
