Fabruorr S- IMl KMHS News By lANICE SCOGGINS Jeff Lineberger, a senior at KMSHS, was named a fianlist in the NC State Merit Scholarship Competition this week. Terry Bumgardner is represen ting Kings Mountain Senior High in the Presidential Classroom held in Washington, D.C. this week. Dennis Caveny participated in the event last week. The Junior Charity League sent invitations to selected senior girls to participate in the 1981 Debutate ball. The League’s ac ceptance list will be closed Thursday, Feb. 5. The Mountaineer Staff spon sored the “Bomb of the Month” contest last week in the place of the “Car of of the Month” con test usually printed. Results will be printed in the next edition of The Mountaineer. This week was declared Basketball Spirit Week by KMSHS cheerleaders. Wednes day was “Slave Day” for the girls, who had to carry books, sharpen pencils, tie show laces, etc. for the boys. Thursday the boys became the girls’ slaves. Fri- day is black and gold day. Students who signed up for school bus driving began the classwork on Tuesday. They should complete the work today. Members of the Junior-Senior Steering Committee met Wednesday for the discussion of decorations corresponding to the 1981 prom theme “It’s My Turn.” The Annual Staff began tak ing club pictures Wednesday. They will complete these pic tures next week. The KMSHS Chorale, directed by Gene Bumgardner, is practicing for a contest at Lenoir-Rhyne scheduled for May 12, and for a contest at Carowinds on May 17. Two seniors, John Grandt and Bryan Norris, are practicing for the Mars Hill Choral Clinic. NCAE members wishing to be a delegate in the April NCAE Convention should see Mrs. • Wells. The FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) presented a check for $160 to Charlene Huskins to help with meical ex penses of her throat surgery. Diane Williams, Kathy Stamey, Mark F. Smith, Terry Plonk, Mr. Baker and Mr. Foster raked leaves from the yards of several elderly citizens. The Drama Club met Tuesday morning for the discussion of the New York trip on May 2 and 3, a possible drama festival in April, and the Senior Class play. Students are selecting from “Mash,” “Dracula,” “Hillbilly Weddin” and “Pecos Bill.” Tryouts for the play will be held next week. There will be a Junior Class meeting tomorrow for the com pletion of a Junior-Senior Prom survey. Glenn L. Harmon Wins Promotion Glenn L. Harmon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Willis O. Harmon of Route 2, Kings Mountain has been promoted in the U.S. Air Force to the rank of Captain. Harmon is a weapons systems officer at RAF Upper Heyford, England.
