(Photo by Dick Haldeman) Church Pipe Organ College Receives Gift DUE WEST, S.C. — Vicksway and Associates of Greenwood, new owners of the former Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church property in Greenwood, have contributed the six-rank Moeller Pipe Organ from the former church to Er skine College. The Greenwood corporation plans to establish the Twelfth Colony Restaurant in the building formerly occupied by the church. John Pullin of Alv beville, a junior music major at Erskine, first noticed the instru ment in the building and brought it to the attention of the Erskine music department. After Erskine Music Pro fessors John G. Brawley Jr., and Cortlandt M. Koonts had asked about the possible purchase of the instrument, the owners of the building contributed it as a gift to the college. Erskine facul ty members, students, and maintenance personnel drove to Greenwood to pick up the in strument. KM Residents To Participate In Hearing Several dozen area residents, including government and com munity leaders, have been scheduled to participate in a public hearing planned by the N.C. Human Relations Council for Wednesday, Feb. 25, at Gaston Community College. The day-long hearing, one of four planned in locations throughout the state to assess the state of human relations in Nonh Carolina, will take place at Myers Center at the com munity college in Dallas beginn ing at 9 a.m. Other public hearings will take place in Graham on March 4, Whiteville on March 11 and Washington on March 18. Some 24 people, mainly from Gaston, Cleveland, Lincoln and Mecklenburg counties, have been scheduled to appear at the regional hearing: others will have the opportunity to testify if they register on the day of the hearing at the site by 1 p.m. The purposes of the hearings are to document information and focus public and govern mental attention on civil rights issues which the council feels need special study or remedial action, according to Dr. Jerry Drayton of Winston-Salem, council chairperson. Broad issues have been defined as com munity perspectives, employ ment, housing, criminal justice, extremist groups and education. Chairman Drayton and other members of the Human Rela tions Council will hear the testimony and will question par ticipants. According to Dr. Drayton, the council plans to use the information it gathers to make recommendations to the governor and the General Assembly and to suggest ap propriate action to local, state and federal officials, as well as to educate and inform the public.
