AprU 16. 1981 Hovis, Queen Winners Sandi Hovis and Jeff Queen were the big winners of bicycles in the recent St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital Wheels for Life bike-a-thon, sponsored by the Kings Mountain Fire Department. Miss Hovis raised $507.50 to win first prize in the adult divi sion and received a Western Flyer bicycle donated by Western Auto. Jeff Queen raised $143.00 to take first place in the children’s division and he won a bike from the Gastonia Bicycle Shop. Thus far, $3,438.45 has been raised for research into cancer and other childhood diseases. Fourteen participants have not yet turned in their donations. Other bikers winning prizes in the adult division included D.W. Brooks, who raised $472; Gary Wyte, $286; Steve Belt, $220; Suzanne Lee, $186; Doug Ramsey, $159; and Katherine Dilling, $145. Other winners in the children’s division were Brady Jackson, who raised $55.00, and Chad Robinson, who raised $25.60. Top Fund Raisers In Bike-A-Thon FRANK GOARE Scholarship To Goare The Charlotte Chapter of the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants has announced the 1981 reci pient of its annual scholarship award. The Chapter makes such award each year to a deserving accounting student at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. The award was made to Frank Y. Goare of Kings Mountain. Presenting the award at the Chapters’ March meeting was President John Lewis, managing partner of the Charlotte office of Arthur Andersen & Co. Mr. Goare is presently a senior at UNCC and will graduate with high honors in August 1981. Upon graduation, he will join the Charlotte office of Seidman & Seidman, a na tional certified public accounting firm. Mr. Goare graduated from Kings Mountain Senior High School in 1977 and was co valedictorian. In addition to numerous honors in high school, he is a member of the UNCC Honor Society and the National Association of Accountants. He is son of Rev. and Mrs. J.C. Goare of Kings Mountain. Rev. Mr. Goare is pastor of Kings Mountain Baptist Church. Yard Sale Nets S1500 North School P-TO raised more than $1500 for playground equipment at a gigantic yard sale and bake sale Saturday on the school grounds. “We want to thank everyone who made this event successful,” said Mrs. Jackie Seism who noted that it was the largest fund-raising amount ever raised besides the Fall Festival which always is a successful fund-raiser for school projects. Members of the arrangements committees, in- addition to Mrs. Seism, were Rebecca Davidson, Barbara Ormand, Ellen Gaffney, Terry Putnam, Judy Ford, Deb bie Parker, Geraldine Weaver, Patricia Queen, Martha Bell, Donna Butler, Frances White, Teresa Conner, Shirley Wright, Teresa Burgess, Eleanor Seism, Linda Rome, Linda Neely and Vivian Rikard.
