Boo Robinson Gets Scholarship To UNC-C Jerald Brinson (Boo) Robinson of Route 3, Lakeshore Drive, Kings Mountain has been nam- . ed a winner-oLa-Colvard Merit Scholarship to attend UNC- Charlotte. Robinson is one of five North Carolinians to win the scholar ship, which is worth $6,800 for four years of college. The Colvard scholarships were established in honor Dr. D.W. Colvard, chancellor emeritus of UNC-C, and his wife, Martha. The primary pur pose is to attract North Carolina students of great potential to the university. REVIVAL Miss Joan Lyons of Plant Ci- tyj'la. will be guest evangelist and present special music at reviv^ services beginning May 3 at Trinity Church of the Living God on Cherryville Road. Services will be held at 7 p.m. nightly through May 10th. FIRE REPORTED A fire of undetermined origin > completely destroyed a mobile home at Stinnett Trailer Parker on Bessemer City Highway Fri day afternoon. Kings Mountain Fire Depart- mentresponded to the blaze. The mobile home was unoccupied at the time. BOO ROBINSON Robinson, a senior at Kings Mountain High School, ranks number one in his class of 275. He 1ms served as student ■hexiy president, is a member of the football team and the National Honor Society. He hopes to become a veternarian. Other winners of Colvard scholarships were Elliott Savelle Bryant of Supply, Timothy Lynn Cruse of Salisbury, Lisa Renee Eller of Stanley and George Mitchell Kay of Charlotte. Robinson is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Sam Robinson. DOT Public Hearing Slated Here On May 14 Kings Mountain area citizens are invited to attend a public hearing to be conducted by the North Carolina Department of Transportation May 14th at 2 p.m. at Kings Mountain Com munity Center. Priority and urban needs in the area, including the timetables for construction of the U. S. 74 Bypass of Kings Mountain, are among topics to be discussed. The public is invited to provide input, according to an advertise ment which appears in today’s Herald. Since a review and reassess ment of primary and urban highway construction priorities across the state have become necessary because of the Highway Deparment’s increas ingly limited financial resources the program is quite timely and of considerable interest to Kings Mountain citizens. The Kings Mountain meeting is one of 14 meetings slated to be held by officials of the N. C. Department of Transportation in April and May. undercover enforcement officers resulted in the arrests of four Kings Mountain citizens and one Gastonian on liquor charges early Saturday. Charged in the raid of Reynolds Dance Club on Cher ryville Road were Howard E. Reynolds, 47, of Route 1, owner of the club; Bobby Dean Towery, 43, of 112 Cloninger St., Dot Chaney of Route 1, Willard Johnson, 40. of 707 Cleveland Avenue, and Paula Deloris Dalton, 33, of 1122 S. Y ork Street in Gastonia. The five people were arrested on a total of 75 alcohol related charges. Officers said that approx imately 250 patrons were inside the club when they arrived. Two teams of officers broke through the front door of the club with an ax just after midnight Friday night. Reynolds was charged with 31 counts of liquor-related charges and his tottil bond was set at $5,800. Johnson, who was charged in 26 counts, posted bond of $5,200 and'Towery’s total bond was set at $ 1,600 on eight counts. Ms. Chaney was charged with one count of the sale of beer, three counts of possession of liquor for sale, two counts of sale of liquor and two counts of possession of an alcoholic beverage on an unauthorized premise. Her total bondvvas set at $1,600. Ms. Dalton was charged with two counts of sale of liquor, one count of possession of liquor for sale and one count of sale of beer. Her total bond was set at $800. Revival Underway Rev. Frank E. Blalock, former pastor of El Bethel United Methodist Church, will be evangelist for revival services April 26-30 at Penley’s Chapel Church on Cherryville Road. Services will be held at 7 p.m. each evening and special singing will be featured. A nursery will be provided for children. Rev. W. L. Huffstetler, pastor, said the community is invited to worship in the series of services. “Rev. Blalock loves revival work and preaches for a verdict”, he said. UONS CLUB The Kings Mountain Lions Club will meet Tuesday at the Kings Mountain Holiday Inn. Lion Thomas R. Topping, District LIF Chairman, will pre sent a program on the work of the Lions International Fund. Lion Johnny Reavis arranged the program. Shelby ABC Officer Danny Wright said the club has been under continuous surveillance for the past three months and that many patrons were charged with drunk driving or possession of liquor in the passenger area of a car. One ptatron was arrested on a charge of simple possession of marijuana. Officers said they found some small amounts of marijuana on the floor of the club along with some other pills or capsules dropped by patrons who saw they would be searched by the 37 officers before they left the premises. In other law enforcement ac tivities, Kings Mountain Police Department is investigating a number of complaints from citizens. East King Exxon Sta tion reported the larceny of $ 15 worth of gasoline during the weekend. Mrs. B.F. Cox reported the attempted break-in of her residence; Burns and Spangler Construction Co. reported vandalism at construc tion site on 161 North with damages amounting to $550. A battery was removed from a dirt- packer and the radiator was fill ed with dirt. Shirley Gossett, of 414 W. Gold St., reported the breaking and entering of her residence. Jerry Oliver, of 112 Stowe Acres, reported that a 10 foot chain link fence was damag ed by vandals. Mike Nappi, of 403 Crescent Hill Road, reported that his 1974 Chrysler was damaged approximately $75. GIFT TO HEART FUND - Vickie Ledford, administrator of Kings Mountain Convalescent Center, presents a check to Dr. Terry Sellers for $800 representing funds raised by patients at a recent rock-a-thon at the nursing home. $4,680 Raised Here For 1981 Heart Fund Kings Mountain area citizens contributed a total of $4,680.00 to the 1981 Heart Fund, accor ding to report of Dr. Terry Sellers, fund drive chairman. Dr. Sellers said that Heart Sunday collections led the dona tions with $2,285.94 tollowed by $1,385.00 from Business Days, $800 from a Kings Mountain Convalescent Center sponsored rock-a-thon and $210 from calendar advertising.Dr. Sellers acknowledged the leadership of Louis Sabetti, Rusiness Days chairman, Mary Adams, Heart Sunday chairman, Suzanne Sellers, calendar chairman, Mar tha Yarbro, who co-chaired the Heart Sunday effort, Mrs. Faye Barbee who was chairman of the Rock-A-Thon, and Jane Talbert and Troop 4 Girl Scouts of Boyce Memorial ARP Churhch for Heart Posters. He said that many volunteers contributed to the success of the appeal. “Kings Mountain citizens can be ptoud of themselves,” said Dr. Seile's. Bit <» Five Winners Named In Kiwanis Talent Show Five students were top win ners in Thursday night’s Kings Mountain Kiwanis Club spon sored Schools Talent Show held in B. N. Barnes Auditorium. All five winners participated in Kindergarten-Seventh Grades competition and danced their way to the top. Wayneta McKinney perform ed a modern jazz dance in the K-First Grade category, Alphon- zo Miller danced in the Second and Third Grade category, an Original Disco was performed by Clifton Whitworth and Tonya Hawkins presented a gymnastic ballet number to tie for the best performance by a Fourth-Fifth Grade student, and Rodney Jor dan danced in the Sixth-Seventh Grade category.
