May U. 1981 Choir To Sing ‘Alive’ The 40-voice Adult Choir of Macedonia Baptist Church, under the direction of Miss Delores White, will once again prsent Joe E. Parks’ Easter Can tata “Alive” Sunday evening. May 17, at 7 p.m. Jesus died as He lived...humbly, yet full or courage and love. He gave His spirit back to God His Father after the perfect sacrifice of His own life. But the death of Jesus was not the end. His beloved followers saw Him alive and knew Him as Lord and Savior. How excitingj Music Benefit Set to read and re-read some of the stories they told about His resur rection. Here in “Alive” are some of the important scenes and events of Christ’s Passion, from the triumphal march into Jerusalem to the resurrection. Gospel Sing Slated The East Side Baptist Church will sponsor a Gospel Sing Satur day night at 7 p.m. Featured groups will be the Good Newsmen of Spartanburg, S. C., the Chappelettes of Gaff ney, S.C., the Hampton Quartet and the Eastside Trio of Kings Mountain. Rev. M. P. Hampton, pastor, said the community is invited to attend. The Fifth Sunday night Gospel Sing will be held on Saturday night at East Side Bap tist Church in Blacksburg,S.C. and the public is also invited to attend the event. Carmet Lays Off Over 100 Because of a nationwide coal strike a temporary layoff at Carmet Company has affected more than 100 workers. Carmet manufactures coal mining tools and Plant Manager Jerry Shook said the layoffs, which began on Monday, would last until progress is made in the strike negotiations. He said the approximately 130 employees will be called back to work when an agreement with the United Mine Workers representatives and the soft coal industry is reached. The strike is now in its 49th day. Vice President and General Manager Jerry Schweiner said the company tried to postpone the layoff as long as possible. Three years ago the company did not lay off employees in a strike that lasted 110 days. “We’re building too much inven tory now at above prime interest rate”,he said. Ladies Night The 43rd annual Ladies Night Banquet of the Kings Mountain Lions Club will be held Tuesday, May 26, at 7 p.m. at the Holiday Inn. Wives of members will be honored guests. A country music benefit Saturday night at Crossroads Music Park will honor the late founder of the Park, Tom Brooks. All proceeds from the show are earmarked for the building fund of the Kings Mountain Baptist Association offices and will be given in memory of the late Mr. Brooks who helped many local and talented youngsters get on the country music circuit. Among featured groups will be both Nashville, Tennessee and local talent. Jerry Van Tassel, who made his entrance into the country music field at Crossroads, will be among guests. Other guests will be Jim my Helms, a 13-year-old boy from Gastonia, Jadi Norris, and the Carolina Band from Kings Mountain Junior High School, among others. Willard Boyles will be master of ceremonies for the show which starts at 6 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and S2.S0 for students. Children under age six will be admitted free. “Tom Brooks helped so many local youngsters to get their start in the music profession that some of his friends wanted to do this show as a memorial to a great and good citizen of our community”, said Boyles, a longtime friend of the Brooks family. Morris, a gifted preacher and pianist, has appeared on television in over 600 cities in the United States and is widely known. Rev.
