Kiwdhis Whips C & C
Unbeaten Kiwanis scored 12
runs in the second inning and
went on to defeat C&C Metal
17-2 in Dixie Youth Major
League baseball action Monday
night at Deal Street Park.
The league leaders sent 17
men to the plate in the second
and 10 more in the third, scoring
five more runs to end the game
on the 10-run rule.
Keith Morris hurled the win
and Keith Dolle took the loss.
Six different players had a hit
apiece for Kiwanis, which also
took advantage of eight bases on
balls and 10 errors. Trent
Sanders, Dale Postell, Kevin
Bolin, Mike Bridges, Todd Hum
phries and Frankie Childers each
had a single.
C&C, which led 1-0 after the
first inning, managed only one
hit, a third inning single by
Shawn James. Morris struck out
seven men.
In another game Monday,
Rotary scored an IM victory
over Champion’s. Gary Carroll
was the winning pitcher and
Raynard Roberts was charged
with the loss.
Aubrey Hollifield had three
hits, including a three-run dou
ble, to lead the winners at the
plate. Phillip Green added two
hits, including a double, and
Wayne Brazzell hit a home run.
Rusty Bumgardner homered and
Steve Lineberry, Tommy Chap
man and Roberts singled for the
losers.
In a game played Tuesday
night, the Police edged the
Jaycees 3-1 on a two-hitter by
Mike Short.
The game was tied at 1 -all go
ing into the sbtth inning, when
the Police club scored two runs
on Short’s single, an error and a
double by Shane Wood.
Wood finished with three hits
to lead the Police attack. Marty
Varnadore and Paul Hendricks
had a hit each for the Jaycees.
Plonk, Yanks, Legion Win
Plonk Oil, the Yankees and
the American Legion won games
in Dbtie Youth Minor League
baseball action Monday and
Tuesday night at Deal Street
Park.
Plonk defeated the Cardinals
74 and the Yankees whipped
the Raiders 7-2 Monday, and
American Legion defeated the
Vitamin Bees 16-6 Tuesday.
Plonk scored four runs in the
fourth inning to erase a 4-3
deficit and defeat the Cardinals.
Chad Plonk’s bases-loaded dou
ble was the big blow.
Plonk hurled the win and
Gene Whetstine took the loss.
Plonk led the winners at bat with
two doubles. Whetstine had two
singles and Rusty Bumgardner
added a double for the losers.
The Yankees trailed the
Raiders 2-0 after three innings of
play. They scored a run in the
fourth and then put the game on
ice with three runs in the fifth in
ning.
Scottie Wheeler and Chip
Cash had singles and Jeff Fowler
added a triple in the fifth inning
rally. Cash finished with 3-for-3
for the winners and Tracey
Wright was 2-for-3 for the losers.
American Legion scored three
runs in the first inning and didn’t
let up in its 16-6 waltz past the
Vitamin Bees. Joe McClain hurl
ed the win and Chris Morris
took the loss.

Rain interrupted action Satur
day night. But, action gets going

Cherokee Speedway, the fastest
half-mile dirt track in the
Southeast, featuring the top
drivers.
Gaffney’s Mike Duvall has
slim lead with five wins over
Freddy Smith, Kings Mountain,
who has four wins, for the late
model title. Gaffney’s Jimmy-
Bullock and Union’s Billy Scott
have a pair each. Gaffney’s
Charlie Blanton has one victory.
Fred Hawkins, Greer, hea^
the limited sportsman field with
four wins. Hot Rod Lemance,
Greenville, is second with three
wins. Butch Bowen, Shelby;
John Patty, Gaffney; and
Charles Seay, Easley; have two

tories. Ronald Ligon,
Blacksburg, has four. Roger
Hamrick, Shelby, leads the street

tories.

Steele Creek 54 Tuesday. The
Orioles lost to Crawford
Sprinkler Tuesday, 12-8.
Roy Mathis picked up the win
Monday for the Redlegs. He
came on with the score tied at
6-all in the fifth and fanned three
of the six men he faced.
Jamie Greene started on the
mound for KM but crest scored
four runs in the fifth to tie the
game.
Robert Anderson led the KM
hitting with two hits, including a
three-run double. Mathis added
a two-run homer and Brent Bell,
David Peeler and Terry Bullock
had one hit each.

Anderson collected three
more hits Tuesday but they
weren’t enough as the Redlegs
fell to Steele Creek. Mathis and
Mark Champion added a hit
each. Mathis took the loss.
Taylor hurled the win for
Steele Creek and also slammed a
home run. Markeith had two
hits for the winners.

Moss were 2-for-3 each in the
Orioles loss to Crawford
Sprinkler. Ricky Proctor was the

stick in Senior Babe Ruth
League action last week.
The Orioles catcher went
4-for-6 for the week and slamm
ed a pair of home runs in leading
the Orioles to a 6-0 victory over
Crest Tuesday and a 9-0 win
over the Redlegs Thursday.
Keeter was 2-for-3 with one
homer in each game.
Ricky Proctor hurled the win
over Crest, scattering four hits
and fanning four Charger bat
ters. McFarland was the losing
pitcher.
Tony Boyce hurled the win
over the Redlegs, outdueling
Roy Mathis. Boyce also aided in
the plate attack with 2-for-3.
Todd Blalock was 2-for-3 for the
Redlegs.

Deal Street Pool opens Sat.,
June 6, for the summer session.
Hours of operation are Mon
day through Saturday, 1 p.m.
until 6 p.m., and Sunday, 2 p.m.
until 5 p.m.
Admission is 50 cents for
children and one dollar for
everyone age 18 or older.
Swimming lessons will be of
fered for children on Monday
and Friday mornings.
George Adams is the pool
manager, assisted by Norman
Pressley.
Head lifeguard is Lindsay
Holmes. Other lifeguards are
Nancy White, Kim Porter,
Susan Hicks and Tony Sabetti.
The T-shaped pool includes a
diving well with spring board
and a long, shallow swimming
area ranging in depths from
three to four feet.
The Deal Street facility also
includes a small pool for children
and non-swimmers. Children
under the age of six must have
an adult supervisor to go swimm
ing.
Lawn furniture will be allow
ed. Approved floatation devices
will be allowed in the large pool
and toys will be allowed in the
small pool only.
A concession stand serving
drinks and snacks will be in
operation.
