« ww»4.4«x. JUU« Plonk Oil Wins Two A Plonk Oil won two games in Dixie Youth Minor League baseball action last week at Deal Street Park. The Patriots defeated the Raiders 10-0 Monday night and the American Legion 11-3 Thursday. In other games last week, the Yankees edged the Legion 13-12 Monday and the Cardinals outscored the Vitamin Bees 11-8 Tuesday. Chad Plonk hurled a one- hitter and fanned 11 batters over a four-inning stretch Monday. The only hit off Plonk was a se cond inning triple by Spencer Brown. Renac Miller led the Patriots at the plate with two singles. The Yankees scored all 13 of their runs in the first three inn ings and then held on to defeat the American Legion. Brian Webster hurled the win and Joe McClain took the loss. Jeff Fowler had three hits for the Yankees and Shawn Smith had three for the Legin. Todd McDaniel hurled the victory as the Cardinals edged the Vitamin Bees Tuesday. Gene Wlutstine and John Van Dyke had singles for the winners and Ryan HoUifield had a double for the Bees. Chris Plonk hurled the win Thursday as Plonk Oil defeated the Legion. Chad Plonk had three hits and Dale Green two for the winners and Toby Deaton had two hits for the Legion. Kiwanis Drops First Loss Kiwanis dropped its first loss* of the year last week in Dixie Youth Major League oaseball action, but still has wrapped up the league championship. Jaycees edged the league- leaders 4-1 Monday night as the league moved into the final two weeks of regular season play. In other action last week, C&C Metal defeated Rotary 74, Champion’s Landscaping outscored Police 16-12, Kiwanis defeated Champion’s 17-3 and C&C edged Jaycees 54. Kiwanis grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning against Jaycees but Jaycees pitcher Monty Deaton toughened after that and allowed only three hits the rest of the way. Jaycees battled back to tie the game at 1 -all after three innings, and then scored the win ning run in the fourth on an er ror and Lew Dellinger’s single. Brent Bagwell slammed a two- run homer to close out the scor ing in the fifth inning. He also had a triple to drive in the tying run in the third inning. Kevin Bolin had a double and triple for Kiwanis. Jody Champion’s home run highlighted a three-run fourth in ning rally which lifted C&C over Rotary Monday night. Julius Pagan contributed two hits to the winners’ attack and Timmy Adams hurled the victory. Gary CanoU had two hits for Rotary. Champion’s scored 12 runs in the first two innings but still had to hold on to defeat Police Tues day night. Rusty Bumgardner led the winners with a double and home run and Mike Short had two hits for Police. Kiwanis snapped back from its Monday loss to bomb Cham pion’s Thursday night. Kiwanis broke open a close game with 10 runs in the third inning. Kevin Bolin and Mike Bridges led the winners with two hits each and Keith Morris hurled the win. Steve Lineberry was 1-for-l for the losers. C&C scored two runs in the fifth inning to break a 3-3 tie and defeat Jaycees Friday. Matt Bradshaw and Jody Champion had singles during the rally. Champion hurled the victory and Brent Bagwell took the loss. Tim Adams and Shawn Jones contributed doubles to the C&C attack. Paul Hendricks and Monty Deaton had two hits each for Jaycees. South Point’s Red Raiders defeated East Randolph 7-0 and 9-2 last week to win the State 3-A basebaU championship in a three-game series at the South Point park. The state championship is South Point’s second in the last two school years. The Raiders won the state football crown in 1979. Southwestern 3-A Conference schools have played for six of the last seven major sports state championships, and have won three of them. R-S Central won the basketball crown in 1980. Steve Seagraves took the loss and Ron Ormand led the Charlotte team at the plate with 2-for-3.
