Employee Appreciation Day Held
Spectrum Fibers, Inc. rolled
out the red carpet Thursday and
Friday to 266 employees the
firm honored in a special Ap
preciation Day and Tenth Birth
day Celebration.
Barbecue with all the trimm
ings was served on three shifts
and officials, those locally and
from the New York office,
gathered to commend the
employees and present them
with caps and other memorabilia
of the occasion.
‘This is a great day for Spec
trum,” said Alex McCallum,
plant personnel manager. Other
officials echoed his sentiments.
Spectrum, one of Kings
Mountain’s leading industries
and a newer addition to the
Kings Mountain community,
came to Kings Mountain 10
years ago this week. Since that
time company officials have
pointed to “the hourly employee
as the firm’s greatest asset.”
Plant Appreciation Day progrms
are held regularly and the com
pany boasts good benefits with
payment of bonuses twice yearly
to employees.
Spectrum employees have
prided themselves as leaders of
the community and in participa
tion in both the United Fund
and Red Cross Bloodmobile pro
grams, among others. Employees
organized this year an Industrial
.Men’s Softball and Basketball
League and a Women’s Softball
League. The employees have
also been leaders in the plant in
reduction of accidents.
Blake Robbins, who has now
retired with Ray Cabaniss,
Beatrice Oates, and Roberta
Herndon, W.O. Hancock, Cuba
Reid, A.B. Hilton, were among
the first emioyees hired by Spec
trum in Kings Mountain. The
first hourly employee hired was
James Clark in the Maintenance
Department.
“Spectrum is proud of its
benefits program for employees
and of a good, clean environ
ment for our people to work in,”
said Personnel Manager Mc
Callum.
