She is a graduate of Blacksburg High School and a 1980 graduate of Limestone College withh B. A. degree. The bridegroom is the son of Mrs. Virgie Arrowood of Route 1, Grover, and James A. Adams of Route 1, Grover. He is a graduate of Kings Mountain High School and received an associate degree from Belmont Textile School in textile manufacturing. The bride is an art teacher with the Cherokee County School District 1. The bridegroom is a designer with Cleveland Products, a divi sion of Minette Mills of Grover. Route 2, Grover, is home for the newlyweds after their moun tain wedding trip. Olivers Are Honored In Shelby American Legion Golf Tournament Is Scheduled Couple Honored Miss Anderson Wins Dgree PLONK Cont. from Page 1 Auburn University on June 9th. She is employed by Caudle Animal Hospital in Charlotte. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Ray Hughes,Sr. of Kings Mountain and grandson of Mrs. Dewey Caldwell of Kings Mountain and the late Mr. Caldwell and of the late Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Hughes. He is a graduate of Kings Mountain Senior High School, the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and received his MBA from Auburn University School of Business. He is employed as a credit analyst for ITT. Mrs. D. C. Payseur, aunt of the bridegroom, presided at the guest register. Paternal aunts and uncles of the bridegroom entertained at a cookout at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Lewis Hughes on Dix on Road. Hamburgers with all the accompliments were served along with assorted desserts from a long table. A beautiful ar rangement of white daisy mums and long-stemmed red roses in a natural colored straw basket was the centerpiece. Gifts were given to the honored pair. Mrs. D.C. Payseur, Mrs. John Caldwell and Mrs. David Caldwell entertained at a drop-in shower on May 24th at the home of Mrs. Payseur. Guests called between 4 and 6 p.m. Refreshments were served from the dining area. The table featured melon balls in a fluted watermelon, chicken salad tarts, ribbon sandwiches, relish tray, lemon tarts and punch. Dr. and Mrs. L. Gene Yar- boro hosted a steak supper at their home in Shelby. On arriv ing, pickups were served. Guests were then served their steaks in the den. Guests included parents of the bride and groom, friends the bride-to-be works with in Charlotte and Yarboro family members. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Queen and Mr. and Mrs. Steven Briley entertained the bride with a steak dinner at Kelly’s. They presented Miss Plonk with wed ding gifts. The bridegroom’s parents hosted the rehearsal dinner on Friday evening at Holiday Inn. Members of the wedding party, family and friends attended. The decorations included white mums with yellow daisy mums, centered with a candle and trailing ivy. The centerpiece for the U-shaped table was a beautiful arrangement of mixed spring flowers with candles. This arrangement was a special gift to the engaged couple from Conrad Hughes who made the arrange ment. Toss salad, roast beef, potatoes, and green beans were served along with cherry cobbler for dessert. A wedding breakfast was hosted by the bride’s paternal aunts and uncles Saturday at 12:30 in the Fellowship Htdl of Resurrection Lutheran Church. Entertaining were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Plonk, Mr. and Mrs. Zeb **lonk, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Patterson, Mr. and Mrs. Hal Plonk, Mr. and Mrs. Carlysle Isley, Mr. and Mrs. Wray Plonk, Dr. and Mrs. George Plonk and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Plonk, Jr. Tomato juice cocktails were served in the Ladies Parlor, after which a three-course breakfast was served in the Fellowship Hall. Arrangements of shasta daisies were used on the tables along with gazebos containing miniature bride and groom. A yellow and white color scheme was used throughout the haU. Miss Cindy Oliver and Mrs. Dennis Panther honored their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Oliver, on their 25th wedding anniversary. The reception was held Tuesday night at the cou ple’s home on Providence Road in Shelby. Party foods were served from a table centered with an arrange ment of spring flowers. A crystal punch bowl was placed on one end of the table and at the op posite end was a two-tiered wed ding cake decorated with spring flowers and a 25th wedding emblem on top. Mrs. John L. Hughes and Mrs. Lawrence Oliver assisted in serving. Guests were Mrs. Bessie Oliver, mother of Mr. Oliver, and members of the immediate family. Mr. and Mrs. Oliver were married June 16, 1956 at First Baptist Church in Grover by the Rev. W. F. Monroe. Mrs. Oliver is the former Shirley Hughes of the Dixon Community, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Hughes. Tenth annual American Legion Golf Tournament by the Calloway System will be held Aug. 1 and first tee-off time is 9 a.m. Entrance fee is $25 per player, including greens fee and cart fee and dinner-dance admission. Women Golfers Winners Four Kings Mountain women golfers won prizes in the recent Foothills League golf tourna ment at Mooresville Country Club. Receiving prizes were Mrs. Ginny Arnette, second low net in her flight; Mrs. Margaret Williams, second low net in her flight; Mrs. Anne Pouchak, low putts, and Mrs. Lynne Mauney, longest drive ball. The July meeting of the Foothills League of Women Golfers will be held July 16th at Glen Oaks Country Club in Maiden. Deadline for entrance fees is Wednesday, July 22. Any ap plications received after this date will be alternates. A meeting to decide the individual team tee- off times will be held at the American Legion Post 155 building on Friday, July 24th, at 7 p.m. A dinner after the tournament will be held from 6 until 8:30 p.m. at American Legion Post 155. Trophies will be awarded and door prizes will be presented. Dancing will continue until midnight. Entrance forms can be obtain ed at Kings Mountain Country Club or can be obtained from any Legionnaire at Post 155. The tournament will be played at Kings Mountain Country Club. OMITTED The names of eight-year- employees Russell Miller and Keith Morrow were inadvertent ly omitted from a listing of Spec trum employees in the Herald Tuesday. Richard Glenn Plyler and Karen English of Asheville, who will be married June 27th in Abernethy United Methodist Church in Asheville, were honored at a dinner on June 11th at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Laurin C. Whisnant, Rustic Hill Circle. Dinner was served from tables set up on the deck and patio. The bride-elect was presented a corsage of white daisies. Those attending the dinner were parents of the groom-to-be. Rev. and Mrs. Richrd E. Plyler, Miss Mary Katheryne Plyhler, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Rayfield of Matthews, N. C., Mr. and Mrs. Mike Rayfield and Jason, and Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Rayfield. The Rayfield family gave the honored couple a box of groceries for their new home. The first balloon flight occurred in 1782, when Jacques and Joseph Montgolfier of Annonay, France, sent up a small smoke filled balloon. Susan Elizabeth Anderson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James J. Anderson of Kings Mountain, received the B.A. degree from John Hopkins University in Baltimore at ceremonies on May 29th. Miss Anderson is a 1977 graduate of Kings Mountain Senior High School. Where there, she was director of the Pep Band and a recipient of the John Philip Sousa Award. In ad dition, she was named chairper son of the Inter-Club Council and vice-president of the Kings Mountain Chapter of the Na tional Honor Society. Miss Anderson majored in psychology at John Hopkins. She has been a member of the women’s varsity fencing team and chairperson of the Student Activities Commission. In her junior year, she served as class treasurer and has been Studenf Council treasurer during the 1980-81 academic year. She was awarded the Student Activities commission Seal for outstanding contributions to student activity at the University.
