ROY HAMMETT Second Lt. Roy S. Hammett, 40, of Route 2, Kings Mountain, is an eight-year veteran with the Kings Mountain Rescue Squad. He is a certified Emergency Medical Technician, has taken the Emergency Vehicle Opera tion Control Course, and is cer tified as an Ambulance CPR technician through the Heart Association. He has taken the Radiological Monitoring Course which certifies him to check the amount of radioactivity in the county, if necessary, and he is trained in the operation of the Jaws of Life (Hurst Power Tool), which is a $6,000 piece of equip ment which frees pinned-in vic tims from cars, plows, planes and other vehicles. He is a paid employee of the squad from 8 a.m. until S p.m. five days a week, and is a volunteer 24 hours a day, seven days a week. He is an Army veteran, and served with the Army’s first aid team for four years. He became interested in lifesaving as a teenager, when he served as a lifeguard and took cours.'s in water safety. “I’ve been interested in it since I was a boy,” he says. “1 want to help the community to the best of my ability and 1 want everyone to know they’re taken care of in times of an emergency.” Hammett is married to the former Linda Garris and has two sons, Shane and Craig. Dr. Blair To Preside At Meeting The Erskine College Alumni Board of Directors will meet Saturday at 10 a.m. at Bonclarken, the Associated Reformed Presbyterian Assembly Grounds at Flat Rock, N.C. Dr. Charles Blair of Kings Mountain, who began a two- year term as president in May, will preside at the meeting, dur ing which the Alumni Board will plan Erskine activities for the 1981-82 year. Limit 1 209 SARAH MITCHEM Funeral services for Sarah Oveda Mitchem, 70, of Lin- colnton were conducted at 4 p.m. Monday at River View Baptist Church in Lincolnton. Burial was in Mountain Rest Cemetery in Kings Mountain. Mrs. Mitchem died Saturday. Survivors include her hus band, Loyd W. Mitchem; four sons, Harold Mitchem of Tam pa, Fla.; Loyd Mitchem of Col umbia, S.C., David Mitchem of Jamestown and Roger Mitchem of Boger City; four daughters, Betty Abernathy of Lowell, Sarah Fisher and Patsy Wright, both of Vale, and Janice Bentley of Maiden; five brothers, Elmer Ross, William Ross, Thomas Ross, Richard Ross and Yates Ross, all of Kings Mountain; three sisters, Laura Queen and Ferrie Lybrand, both of Kings Mountain, and Lillian Mincey of Gastonia; 18 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to River View Baptist Church, Lin colnton. H.T. LUCKADOO Funeral services for Homer T. Luckadoo, 73, of Ellenboro were conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home Chapel in Cliffside by the Rev. James Sandford. Burial was in Duncan’s Creek Presbyterian Church cemetery. Luckadoo died Monday at his home. A Rutherford County native, he was the son of the late Ben and Mary McFarland Luckadoo. Survivors include his wife, Virginia Seay Luckadoo; two stepsons, Edwin Rogers of EUen- boro and Donald Rogers of Hendersonville; two brothers, W.K. Luckadoo of Mooresboro and G.T. Luckadoo of Caroleen; a sister, Mrs. Velma Tony of Rutherfordton; a half brother, Herbert McFarland of Kings Mountain; and six grand children.
