IMl This Man Could Save Your Life OBITUI^Rie^ ROSS LEFEVERS Ross Lefevers is a four-year veteran with the Kings Moun tain Rescue Squad, having join ed after becoming disabled from his Job at Lithium Corporation. He is trained in the use of the Jaws of Life, is a certified emergency vehicle operator, is trained in CPR, radiation, and other skills. He is a U.S. Army veteran, having served three years active duty and four years in the Na tional Guard. He is chief of the Kings Mountain REACT unit. Because of his disability, Lefevers said, “1 cannot do physical rescue work, but I can maintain good equipment. I got into rescue work after my disability to occupy my time and I thought I could do something for somebody else.” Lefevers, 47, is married to the former Doris Estes of Tennessee. They reside at 614 East Gold Street and are members of East Gold Street Wesleyan Methodist Church. RALPH WELCH Funeral services for Ralph W. Welch, 63, of Route 4, Ifings Mountain, will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday at Allen Memorial Baptist Church by the Rev. William Parker. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Welch died at 11 :S0 Tuesday at Cleveland Memorial Hospital after several months illness. A native of Cherokee County, S.C., he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John W. Welch. He was a construction worker and cattle dealer. He was a member of Allen Memorial Baptist Church. He was a holder of the Bronze Star and served in World War II in the 33Sth Infantry Division. Surviving are his wife, Emma Fortenberry Welch; two sons, Charles W. Welch of Kings Mountain and James T. Dover of Leland, N.C.; one daughter, Mrs. Charles (Brenda) Low ranee of Grover; two brothers, Jesse Welch and Lester Welch of Kings Mountain; one sister, Mrs. Preston (Lena) Goforth of Grover; and sue grandchildren. The family received friends Wednesday from 7 until 9 pjn. at Harris Funeral Home. BROYHILL VISIT Congressman Jim Broyhill will make his annual visit of com munities in the 10th Congres sional District during the week of August 1-7. He will be in Kings Mountain at the Govern mental Services Facilities Center on Fri., Aug. 7 from 3J0 until 4:30 p.m. All area citizens who have questions or problems to discuss with Broyhill are en couraged to attend. No appoint ment is necessary. M.F. McDaniel Marion Francis (Barney) McDaniel, 51, of Grover died Monday at Charlotte Memorial Hospital after an extended il lness. Funeral services were con ducted Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Sunset Cemetery by the Rev. Leroy Jones. A Cleveland County, native, he was the son of Elsie Mae Jones McDaniel Black of Kings Mountain and the late Robert Lester McDaniel. Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his wife, Virginia Sue Deskin McDaniel; two sons, Wayne Richard McDaniel and James David McDaniel of Shelby; four daughters, Mrs. Melinda Lou Earley of Grover, Miss Darla Jean McDaniel of Shelby, Miss Linda Darlene McDaniel and Miss Amy Dawn McDaniel, both of the home; seven brothers, Paul McDaniel of Charlotte, Kenneth McDaniel of Chesapeake, Va., Thomas McDaniel and Fred McDaniel of Shelby, John D. McDaniel and Donald Gene McDaniel of Lat- timore and Jerry C. McDaniel of Arizona; and three grand children. CORRECTION The author of a letter to the editor entitled “Looking Down on Camping” was inadvertently omitted in last week’s edition. The letter writer was Mary Taylor of Kings Mountain. LW. Miss Anthony died Monday at 12K)5 at Kings Mountain Hospital after several months il lness. A Kings Mountai native, she was the daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. James E. Anthony and was a member of Boyce Memorial A.R.P. Church. She was a graduate of Kings Mountain High School and Er- skine College. Surviving are two brothers, James E. I.L HUMPHRIES Funeral services for James Leroy Humphries, 38, of Gastonia, were conducted Sun day at 3 pjn. at Love Memorial Baptist Church in Gastonia by the Rev. David McMahan and the Rev. James Williams. Burial was in Gaston Memorial Park. Humphries died Thursday night in Gaston Memorial Hospital. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and was employed by Homelite. Survivors include his wife, Brenda Faile Humphries; a daughter, Lisa Humphries of the home; a son, Jeffrey Humphries of the home; three sisters, Jean Earl of Rock Hill, Brenda Car- rigan of Gastonia and Selena Carrigan of Kings Mountain; two brothers, Hubert and Charles Humphries, both of Kings Mountain; and his mother, ’ Nora Humphries of Kings Mountain.
