Asigual 20, IMl-KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD-Page 3A Blanton To Sing At Boiling Springs Joe Blanton, former singer with the New York City Opera, will give a sacred music concert at Boiling Springs Baptist Church Sunday at 7:30 p.m. Blanton is a native of Shelby. The concert will consist of standard favorites such as ‘The Lord is My Light”, several spirituals such as “Nobody Knows the Trouble I’ve Seen” and “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot.” He will also sing “It Took a Miracle”, “Room at the Cross” and other gospel songs. His accompanist will be Mary Ruth Dixon, a graduate piano major at Gardner-Webb College. The concert is open to the public. Admission is free. An of fering will be taken. CHURCH SUPPER Grace United Methodist Church will have a family night supper on August 30 at 6:30 p.m. Dr. William R. Edwards, Superintendent of The Children’s Home in Winston- Salem, will present a program about the Children’s Home. Members and guests are en couraged to bring a covered dish. Plates, napkins, and tablewear will be furnished. LAY TRAINING A District Lay Speaker Cer tification School for Methodists will be held September 20 and 27 and October 4 from 2-6 p.m. at Myers Memorial United Methodist Church in Gastonia. The curriculum is designed for lay persons seeking introductory studies. A registration fee of $10 is required. ICE CREAM Mary’s Grove United Methodist Church, Route 3, Kings Mountain, will have an ice cream supper Saturday from 6 until 9 p.m. Home-made ice cream, cakes, pies, and cokes will be sold and therwill also be live music, softball, tennis, volleyball, horseshoe pitching and a cake walk. The public is in vited to attend. All proceeds will go toward the purchase of a P.A. system. Kiser Top Operator From Pag* 1-A ”1 have a real good crew,” said Kiser, “and they are as much to thank as anybody. If not for them, I wouldn’t have won it.” Kiser has been a member of the N.C. Water Works Operators Association ever since he joined the city. He attends an operator school every year to further his education and classification. There are three classifications of water works operators. A, B, and C. ’Tou have to do a lot of reading and studying on your own to keep up with all the latest things,” he said. Kiser is married to the former Lorena Falls and is the father of three children, Sandi Shockley, Dan Kiser and Phil Kiser, all of Kings Mountain.
