OWENS Funeral services for Mrs. Christine Peeler Owens, 70, of 200 Fulton Drive, Kings Moun tain, were conducted Friday at 4 p.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church by the Rev. Tom Patter son. Burial was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. Mrs. Owens died Wednesday at Kings Mountain Hospital. Mrs. Owens was a native of Greenville County, S.C., and was the daughter of the late James E. and Sarah Poole Peeler. She was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband, Paul Owens of the home; one son, Pete Owens of Raleigh; four daughters, Mrs. Joe (Mary) Spearman and Mrs. Robert (Pat) Thomas, both of Hendersonville; Mrs. Louise Johnson of Durham and Mrs. Frank (Paula) Goforth of Gaffney, S.C.; one brother, W.O. Peeler of Kings Mountain; a sister, Mrs. Rowena Hatcher of Greer, S.C., and seven grand children. Active pallbearers were Bob Meyers, Kermit Huffstetler, Charles Wilson, Lester Welch, G.C. Smith Sr. and Bill Shytle. MRS. SLAYTON Funeral services for Mrs. lla Belle Slayton, 80, of 810 Second Street, Kings Mountain, were conducted Saturday at 4 p.m. at Harris Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. John Heath. Burial was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. Mrs. Slayton died Thursday at Kings Mountain Hospital. She was a Buncombe County native and a retired textile worker. Her husband was the late Alfred Bryant Slayton. Surviving are a son, Pat Slayton of Kings Mountain; a daughter, Mrs. Hazel McCurry of Kings Mountain; 10 grand children and seven great grand children. MRS. JONES Funeral services for Mrs. Ilo Octavia Jones, 71, of Route 1, Kings Mountain, were held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church by the Rev. George Sherrill and the Rev. Raymond Shumpert. Burial was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. Mrs. Jones died Thursday at Kings Mountain Hospital. A Charlotte native, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Melton Hinson. Her hus band was the late Jesse Jones. Surviving are a brother, Earl Hinson of Lancaster, S.C.; and two sisters, Mrs. LW. (Ruth) Leonard of Kings Mountain and Mrs. Sarah Lucas of Calhoun Falls, S.C. GERTIE V. SMITH Funeral services for Gertie Valentine Smith, 78, of Gastonia, were conducted Fri day at Beech Avenue Baptist Church in Gastonia bythe Rev. Homer Wilson. Burial was in Gaston Memorial Park. Mrs. Smith died Wednesday in Gaston Memorial Hospital. Survivors include two sons, Daniel Smith of Bessemer City and Buford Smith of Gastonia; five daughters, Edith Nolen of Belmont, lla Bea Valentine of Charlotte, Dena Smith of Bessemer City, Brenda Elrod and Shirley Stallings, both of Gastonia;two brothers, Lonus and Lawrence Valentine, both of Shelby; three sisters, Ressie Adams of Bessemer City, Hazel Hale of Greenville, S.C., and Cleta Valentine of Kings Moun tain; 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. W.A. BELL Funeral services for William Alexander Bell, 75, of Route 5, Kings Mountain, were con ducted Monday at 4 p.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Mike Goudelock. Burial was in the church cemetery. Bell died Saturday morning at the Gaston Memorial Hospital. He was a retired farmer and paint contractor and a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. He was the son of the late Dave and Ollie Harmon Bell and the husband of the late Marie Har mon Bell. Survivors include four sons. Curt, Paul, Bill and Jim Bell, all of Kings Mountain; one brother, Monroe Bell of Charlotte; one sister, Mrs. Etta Gilliland of Kings Mountain; 12 grand children, and 10 great grand children. CLAUDE PATTERSON Funeral services for Claude Patterson, 65, of Route 3, Kings Mountain, were conducted Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Washington Baptist Church by the Rev. Herbert Rhedrick. Burial was in the church cemetery. Patterson died Saturday at Cleveland Memorial Hospital after an illness of several mon ths. A Kings Mountain native, he was a retired maintenance employee of Best Bakery, and a member of Washington Baptist Church. Survivors include his step mother, Mrs. Mary Patterson of Waco; a son, Rickey Patterson of Kings Mountain; five daughters, Mrs. Pauline Mauney of the home, Mrs. Betty Wilson and Mrs. Christine Cunningham Byers, both of Kings Mountain; Mrs. Louise Hillyer of Shelby and Mrs. Ella Kirkland of Waco; a brother, Charles Patterson of Waco; three sisters, Mrs. Thelma Leach of Shelby, and Mrs. John (Ida) Montgomery and Mrs. Virginia Patterson, both of Waco; 21 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. MRS. ADAMS Funeral services for Mrs. Liz zie Moore Adams, 70 of 224 Walker Street, Kings Mountain, were conducted Monday at 4 p.m. at Midview Baptist Church by the Rev. Fred Wells, the Rev. George Leigh and the Rev. L.E. Ramsey. Burial was in the An tioch Baptist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Adams died Saturday at Kings Mountain Hospital. A Cherokee County, S.C., native, she was the daughter of Rhoda the late Sammy and McDonald Moore. Surviving are her husband, Bill Adams; four brothers, J.v! and R.T. Moore, both of Kings Mountain, and Sherman and Claude Moore, both of Blacksburg, S.C.; and two sisters, Mrs. Ben Black of Grover and Mrs. Eugene Black of Kings Mountain.
