Weapons Case Is Continued Federal weapons cases against Kings Mountain High School teacher Kenny Blanton have been continued until the Oc tober 5 term of federal court in Charlotte. Blanton is charged with possession of unregistered firearms, aiding and abetting the possession of unregistered firearm and aiding and abetting the transfer of an unregistered firearm. Blanton and two other men charged - Robert Allen Patrikios of Apex and Michael E. Meszaros of Raleigh—all plead ed not guilty to the charges last month in federal court. They were indicted August 3 by a federal grand jury after a lengthy investigation by officers of the Department of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. William Davis, Superinten dent of Kings Mountain District Schools, said Blanton will con tinue to teach in the Industrial Cooperative Training program at KMHS. he said no action, if any, will be taken by the Board of Education until after Blanton’s trial. MAN CHARGED Roy J. Carter of 3006 Crawford Street, Gastonia, has been charged with larceny of two weedeaters from Kings Mountain Farm Center. He has ptosted a S300 bond. Get Your Auto Checked Free By KM Students The Kings Mountain Senior High School auto mechanics class will be sponsoring a free automobile winterization clinic now through October 2 at the high school auto mechanics shop, located on the hill beside John Gamble Stadium. Trained students will inspect automobiles for items such as radiator condition, antifreeze coolant content, water level, radiator cap, all hoses and belts, and heater operation, all free of charge. This service will be open to the public from 8:45 a.m. until 12 noon each school day. For in formation and appointment, call Mr. Johnson at 7394022 during school hours. In the majority of reported accidents involving a school bus, the driver’s attention was diverted by a disturbance created on the bus. We can’t stress enough the importance of preaching good school bus safe ty- The school bus driver of today is one of the best trained drivers on the road. Each one has spent two full days in class lecture and discussion and several hours of behind-the-wheel and observa tion time in addition to the regular license training provided in regular Driver Education pro gram. A good balance of twenty- two adult and sixteen drivers perform their responsible task daily. Bus drivers are currently receiving $3.50 per hour for their service. Any Kings Moun tain citizen who is licensed to drive may enroll in the bus drivers training programs offered in Kings Mountain and may upon satisfactory completion of this program be assigned to a bus as either a regular driver or as a substitute. The next training class will be held at Kings Moun tain Senior High School on September 22 and 24. Those in terested should contact Blaine Froneberger at 739-5401. KM Student On GC List Gaston College has announc ed 115 students to the Honor Lists for the Summer Quarter. Thirty-eight students were nam ed to the President’s Honor List. A grade point average of 4.0 on 12 or more hours of work in a quarter is the requisite for the President’s Honor List. Rodney L. Gordon, 503 N. City Street, Kings Mountain was named to the President’s Honor List. Gordon was also named to the Dean’s List.
