Octobar 8, 1981 Reader Dialogue Thanks To Bloodmobile Donors D«or Editor; The Kings Mountain Industrial and Community Bloodmobile held on Friday, Oct. 2, had 134 volunteer donors presenting, 18 deferred with 116 productive pints of blood given for the patients in the hospitals. Six first time donors came to this visit. Although we came up 44 pints short on the goal of 150 each citizen who came is to be com mended for helping to get 116 pints of much needed blood. The Cleveland County Chapter was asked to get 6 pints of 0 Positive blood type for Ped packs to be used in baby transfusions and we want to thank the donors who made this possible. We owe Mr. Alex McCallum a debt of gratitude for many hard hours of work as contact person for this Bloodmobile. He contacted local industries and the top four participating were: Spectrum 23 donors; Mauney Hosiery 15; Anvil Knit 14 and Clevelmont 11. Plans arc underway to change the day of this visit from Friday to Monday next year and the hours to 11:30 a.m. to 5K)0 p.m. Special thanks arc also due the Kings Mountain Jaycees for their help at four of the six Bloodmobile visits during the year. They provide help to unload and load the Charlotte Blood Center truck, the Cleveland County Red Cross van and help set up the site for each of the community visits except the two high school ones. The next visit to Kings Mountain will be held at Kings Mountain High School on Mon., Dec. 7. Please change this date on any schedule you may have. Diana Dellinger and Lynn Eskridge are new volunteer recruiters for help at bloodmobiles. Anyone wishing to work may contact them or 'the Red Cross office. We appreciate the men and women who serve as volunteers in all areas of services provided by Red Cross as it is the largest voluntary organization in the world and the largest in the United States. School Volunteers Needed West Elementary School is looking for volunteer to serve at least one hour per week in ser vice to the school. Volunteers are expecially needed in grades four and five. West serves grades kindergarten through five. Parents, grandparents, other relatives of students and other members of the community are encourage to volunteer their time. The volunteer program is in its third year and Principal Joe Hedden said teachers have notic ed much improvement in the students’ progress.
