Pag* 2B-K1NGS MOUNTAIN HERALD-Thunday, October 22. 1981 Patriots Win 34-27, Play At Shelby Today Kings Mountain Junior High’s football team rebounded from its only loss of the year last Thursday to defeat East McDowell 34-27 in a Western Junior High Athletic Associa tion contest in Marion. The victory gives the Patriots a 3-1 conference record and 4-1 overall mark going into a game today at Shelby. Shelby is 4-0 in the conference and 6-0 overall. A Kings Mountain victory in the S p.m. contest could throw the final Western loop standings into a three-way tie. Burns and Kings Mountain currently share the number two spot. Lavar Curry again led the way offensively, gaining 131 yards rushing in 12 carries and scoring two touchdowns. He scored on a 47-yard run and caught a S2-yard touchdown pass from Rollick Boyce to give the Patriots a 14-0 lead after the first period. Curry caught four passes for 81 yar^, giving him 211 yards total offense in his best all-round game of the season. Vince SuUens scored on a five yard run, Otis Brooks on a one yard run and Mike Grier on a 56 yard pass from Boyce for the other three KM touchdowns. Curry ran for a pair of two-point conversions. Three of East McDowell’s BASKETBALL LEAGUE A Commercial Basketball League meeting will be held Tues., Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. at the Kings Mountain Neighborhood Facility Center (Room 202). All interested sponsors and managers are urged to attned. Plans will be discussed to organize an eight-team league, sponsored by the Kings Moun tain Parks and Recreation Department. "We did a good job coming back after a loss to Burns last week,” Coach Heffner said. “We came out ready to play, hit hwd and played a real good defensive game.” Heffner said the Patriots will have to give their best effort of the year today at Shelby.
