KM’S Tim Riddle Wins Statesville Tournament
Kings Mountain’s Tim Riddle
won the Cross Roads Invita
tional Tennis Tournament last
weekend in Statesville.
The Presbyterian Collere
standout won six matches to
claim the title, defeating Jim
Pullium of the University of
North Carolina 3-6, 7-6 and 64
in the title match.
Players from Davidson, UNC-
Chapel Hill, UNC-Charlotte,
Winthrop, Atlantic Christian,
Pfeiffer and Presbyterian com
peted in the event.
Riddle recently won the se
cond annual Battle of Kings
Mountain Tournament at the
KMHS courts.
“It really felt good to win this
tournament, along with the
Kings Mountain tournament,”
said Riddle. “1 had a very slow
summer but these two tour
naments helped salvage a good
year.
In the finals. Riddle held off
five match points against
Pullium.
In earlier rounds, he defeated
Jack Burrow of Charlotte 6-1,
6-2; Phillip Crowder of Davidson
64, 64; Johann Sturhan of
Atlantic Christian 7-6, 6-3;
Nevins Todd of Davidson 6-2,
6-1; and Ed Caldwell of UNC-C
6-2, 6-2.
Presbyterian’s Brett Dowen-
ing and Alan Dowening defeated
Mark Nottingham and Nevins
Todd of Davidson to win the
doubles title, 7-5,6-2.
In the women’s singles, Kelly
Shackleford of Presbyterian
reached the finals before losing
to Emmey Noblock of David
son.
Riddle will compete in the
South Carolina State Inter
collegiate Championships at Fur
man University Oct. 30-Nov. 1.

Kings Mountain High’s girls
tennis team split a pair of
Southwestern 3-A Conference
matches last week, defeating
Crest 6-3 Tuesday and losing to
Shelby 9-0' Thursday. The
Mountainettes are now 5-1 in
the SWC and 7-5 overall heading
into their last three matches.
They were scheduled to play
