IMl Mobile Home is Destroyed The mobile home of George Bolin of Wiggins Trailer Park on Highway 161 South of Kings Mountain was destroyed by fire last Wednesday afternoon. Bill Herndon of the Kings Mountain Fire Department said the fire was reported at 1 ;56 p.m. The trailer was a total loss, he said. The cause of the fire is under investigation by county fire mar shal Delane Davis. Kings Mountain, Bethlehem and Oak Grove firemen respond ed. The senior high choral pro gram is divided into two major performing groups. The Ensem ble is the lesser-developed voices, and it numbers 66. The Chorake numbers 42 members and it’s composed of more developed voices. These groups offer Christmas and spring concerts to stimulate community response and support. Harrison Named Chairman Of Vocational Committee David Harrison, personnel manager at Eaton Corporation, has been elected chairman of the Kings Mountain District Schools Vocational Advisory Council for the 1981-82 school year. Other officers elected at the council’s first meeting of the year Monday at Kings Moun tain High School were Rev. M.L. Campbell, vice-chairman, and Beth Eubanks, secretary. Other members are Mrs. Ruby Alexander, Glee Bridges, Mrs. Audrey Dickey, James Dickey Jr., Mrs. Mary Dilling, Jake Dix on, Gerald Grigg, Harold Lineberger, Jerry Nation, William Orr, Gary Stewart, Cameron Ware and Mrs. Mar tha Wright. The vocational program has 1,340 students in grades seven through 12. Usually being a small class, the levels of achievement will depend on the specific needs of the individuals. This class is also open for students who have auditioned but did not make chorus in order to ascertain if there’s a possibility of acquiring singing skill great enough to par ticipate in Ensemble or Chorale. The instrumental music department of the Kings .Moun tain District Schools is offered to students from grade 7 through grade 12. Band in grades 7, 8, and 9th are self-contained. Each of these groups is engaged in a sequential learning situation which hopefully will prepare each student for high school band. The Kings Mountain High School Band is made up of students from grades 10-12, under the direction of Donald Deal. The ninth grade band is directed by Christopher Cole. This band is a marching band of around 100 members in the fall of the year and performs at foot ball games, parades, and other events. Beginning in November the Blazer Concert Band is form ed and consists of students from the marching band who have successfully passed individual audition requirements. This con cert band presents a December concert, a concert of State Contest-Festival selections, and a spring concert. The eighth and ninth grade band and the high school blazer band have repeatedly earned superior ratings at the North Carolina Grover’s Fall Festival Is Scheduled Grover Elementary School will hold its Fall Festival Thurs., Oct. 29, beginning at 5 p.m. Hot dogs, hamburgers, desserts and drinks will be sold in the school cafeteria beginning at Games for students and adults will be held in the gym and some classrooms from 6 until 8:30. N.C. 28086 State Contest-Festival which is sponsored by the North Carolina Band Directors Association. For the past 8 years the Blazer Band has entered in the Difficult Grade Six Division. Last year the 9th grade band entered in Grade Four. Another activity is preparing students for the South Central All-State Band Clinic which is held each January. This is open to students from grades 9-12 who are selected on the basis of individual audition. The Kings Mountain Instrumental Music Department is always well- represented in this very rewar ding musical endeavor. This clinic will be held in Kings Mountain this year. Students who place high enough in this band are eligible for the right to audition for the State Honors Band. Kings Mountain has plac ed students in this band for the past four years. The high school pep band is a smaller select group of generally older students who perform valuable services throughout the year. This group plays at some of the out of town football games. basketball games, school pep rallies, and various community events. This group performs above and beyond the call of du ty and consists of very dedicated young people.
