Karen Ledford and Pat Davis, Kings Mountain’s number one doubles team, advanced to the semi-finals of last week’s Sec tional Tournament at Shelby to qualify as one of the four teams from this section of the state. The Kings Mountain team won three matches before losing to Lucy Spragins and Elizabeth Lutz of Shelby, who went on to finish second in the tourney. The final score was 5-7, 6-2, 7-6. Ledford and Davis defeated Stamey and Stamey of East Rutherford, 6-0,6-1; Queen and Edwards of Bums 6-0 and 6-0; and Harrison and Carpenter of Boosters Sponsor Game The Kings Mountain High Booster’s Club will sponsor a pre-season basketball scrimmage between the Mountaineers and Bessemer City on November 16 at the KMHS gym. Admission is one dollar. The girls scrimmage will get underway at 6 p.m. The Booster’s Club meeting will be held that night between the girls and boys games. The Booster Club’s annual football banquet will be held at 7 p.m., November 30 in the KMHS cafeteria. Former North Carolina great Charlie (Choo Choo) Justice will be the guest speaker. • * • The club will give away a television during halftime of Fri day’s final football game against Shelby. Anyone giving a one dollar donation will be eligible to win. Tie In Contest Joyce Robinson of Grover and Danny McDoweU of Kings Mountain shared the $75 prize in last week’s Herald football contest. Both guessperts predicted 17 of 20 winners and were one point off on the tie-breaker of 27 points scored in the UNC- Maryland game, won by the Tar Heels 17-10. Robinson predicted 26 points on the tie-breaker and McDowell predicted 28. Other persons missing just three games, but losing out on the tie-breaker, were Mikie Bai ty, Bob McRae and CE. Bowen of Kings Mountain and David Sanders of Shelby. Robinson missed Kings Mountain’s win over R-S Cen tral, Duke’s victory over Georgia Tech and Miami’s win over Penn State. McDowell missed Miami’s win over Penn State, Tampa Bay’s victory over Chicago and Washington’s win over St. Louis. The final contest of this year is in today’s paper. The Mountainettes finished fourth in the team standings behind Shelby, Ashbrook and Hunter Huss. “We could have done better,” said Coach Ed Guy, “but I think we did quite well considering our inexperience. With most of the girls coming back, 1 feel real good about our chances next season.” Homecoming Game Set The Kings Mountain pee wee football team will play its annual homecoming game against McAdenville on Tues., Nov. 10 at City Stadium. Homecoming activities will get underway at 5 pjn. and will include introduction of the players and their sponsors, and crowning of the King and Q^een by Mayor John Henry Moss. The football game will get underway at 6:30. The Cleveland County Bass Club held its monthly tourna ment Saturday at Lake Green wood, S.C. Keeter Hamrick won first Thursday. Mike Seawright was second with two pounds, nine ounces; and Gene Hoyle was third with one pound, 15 ounces. Hoyle caught the biggest fish, one pound, 15 ounces.
