(Bud) Baird is join ing Eaton Corporation as Presi dent of the company’s newly formed Defense and Systems Group. The announcement was made by James R. Stover, Presi dent and Chief Operating Officer of Eaton. The new group has resulted from the restructuring of Eaton’s Instruments & Diver sified Products Group, whose Group President Arthur E. Morgan has resigned. The ex ecutive appointment and the new group are effective December 31, Stover said. Morgan will continue to report to Stover on special assignment. Eaton’s new Defense and Systems Group will consist of Semiconductor Equipment 'Operations and Instruments & Systems Operations and will employ some 4,200 persons. From 1957 to 1963 Baird was employed with Varo, Inc., in several marketing and sales posi tions. He served in the U.S. Navy. Baird received a BBA degree in 1956 and an MBA degree in 1960, both from North Texas State University in Denton, Texas. Eaton is a manufacturer of ad vanced technology products ser ving worldwide industrial and transportation markets. Sales for the first nine months of 1981 amounted to S2.4 billion and net income was $58.7 million or S2.15 per share. Earnings for the first nine months of 1981 were sharply reduced by a special charge in the first quarter of $43.6 million or $.88 per share. The charge related to Eaton’s decision to close its Philadelphia plant, and to consolidate its North American lift operations. Eaton employs 50,000 persons in 170 plants on six continents. MR. Shelby Here Tuesday Night Kings Mountain High athletic teams resume 1981-81 action next week. The KMHS cagers host Shelby Tuesday night at 6:30 in a key Southwestern Conference twinbill. Kings Mountain’s girls take a 3-3 conference record into the opening game while the Mountaineers are 5-1 and still one game behind R-S Central in the race for first place. The jayvee boys teams from the two schools will play a preliminary game at 4 p.m. The KM jayvees are 4-3 and will be trying to get back into the winn ing column after losing their final pre-Christmas game to Burns. The KMHS wrestlers, 2-0 in the SWe and 3-0 overall, return to action Monday night at South Point.
