A nativeof Pennsylvania, he was retired from Ford Motor Company. He was the son of the late John and Mary Rostis Hritz. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where services were conducted Wednesday by Father Felix Kelaher. Burial was in Cleveland Memorial Park. Surviving are his wife, Emily Kurowski Hritz; two daughters, Mrs. Tom Loesch of Medina, Ohio, and Mrs. Jim Niskala of Kings Mountain; a sister, Mrs. Frank Horvath of Mesa, Ariz.; and five grandchildren. MRS. QUEEN Mrs. Katherine Tucker I Queen, 67, of Shelby died Satur- J day at Mercy Hospital in A U ^ Charlotte. A Cleveland County native, she was the daughter of the late John and Tinnie Allen Tucker, and the wife of the late Robert Lee and the late W.E. Carroll. Survivors include her hus band, Tilden P. Queen; two sons, Jerry Allen Lee of Gaffney, S.C., and Jack Edgar Lee of l.awndale; seven stepsons, J.L. Carroll of Newport News, Va., Roy Carroll of Houston, Texas, B.E. Carroll of Lexington, Ky., W.E. Carroll Jr. of Rock Hill, S.C., Jimmy Carroll of Lawndale, Charles Queen of Shelby, and Gerald Queen of Shelby; four stepdaughters, Mrs. Margaret C. Morton of Charlotte, Mrs. Jack Harmon of Kings Mountain, and Mrs. Joan Crocker and Mrs. Thelma Barnette, both of Shelby; and sbt grandchildren. She was retired as secretary tor the insurance department of Jaycee Banquet Saturday From Pag* 1-A Nominees for the Outstanding Educator Award are Mary Anne Gibson, a kindergarten teacher at Bethware School; Debra Pait, a sixth grade teacher at Central; Annette Parker, English teacher at KMHS; Karen Burton, fifth grade teacher at West; Carol Parker, fourth grade teacher at North; Kaye Jolly, first grade teacher at East; Mike Thompsn, English teacher at KMHS; and Lynda Stewart, fourth and fifth grde teacher at Grover. Nominees for the Outstanding Young Farmer Award are Jerry Bell, an Oak Grove farmer, and Johnny Wayne Yarbro, a Bethlehem farmer. Nominees for the Outstanding Young Fireman Award are Johnnie Caldwell, Patrick Witherspoon and Bobby King, all members of the Kings Moun tain Fire Department. A Thompson is one of America’s most popular mid-day radio per sonalities and brings on the smiles and keeps dials tuned to WBT. His daily audience surveys draw crazy comments on topics ranging fromwhen you know the honeymoon is over to junk food A fetishes. Frequent special guests " have run the gamut from Burt Reynolds to Miss America to Vidal Sassoon. Trivia games and star salutes add to the daily fun. His listeners also stay inform ed with top of the hour news plus Paul Harvey commentary, and there’s always a great mix of music. ^ As busy as he is on the air, he doesn't let up when he signs off. He’s in constant demand as a commercial voice talent, emcee and motivational speaker. He’s also first in line to greet visitors at WBT’s charitable World’s Largest Attic Sale or turn his toes purple at the York County Grape Festival. ^ The event will get underway at 6 p.m. with a social hour. A meal, Thompson’s speech and the awards presentations will follow. Ticket prices are $10 for singles and $16 for couples. Funeral services were con ducted Monday at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, where she was a member, by the Rev. Jack B. Yarbrough and the Rev. Rodney Hagans Jr. Burial was in Palm Tree United Methodist Church cemetery. MATTIE C. FLOYD Mattie Campbell Floyd of Stanley died Thursday at a Gastonia nursing home. She was a member of Spr ingfield Baptist Church and the Friendly Aid Society. Survivors include four daughters, Marie Byrd and Ophelia F. Hickman, both of Gastonia, and Myrtle F. Lipscomb and Geneva F. Davis, both of Stanley; five sons, George Floyd of Kings Moun tain, Frank Floyd of Gastonia, and Joe Floyd, Clarence Floyd and Robert Floyd, all of Stanley; one sister, Menervia Hartage of Gastonia; 44 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren and 30 great-great grandchildren. Funeral services were con ducted Sunday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Bowl ing Green, S.C., by the Rev. Lewis Montgomery and the Rev. Theodore Armstrong. NETTIE UVNKFORD Hettie Painter Lankford, 95, of 106 Owens Street, Kings Mountain, died Friday morning. Survivors include three daughters, Pauline Shults of Gastonia, Inez Morgan of Frankfort, N.Y., and Lithia Lankford of Kings Mountain; one son, Herbert C. Lankford of Bessemer City; one sister, Mrs. Will Pearson of Cramerton; 14 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and two great- great-grandchildren. Funeral services were con ducted Sunday at Second Baptist Church by the Rev. Eugene Land. She was a member of the church for over 65 years. Burial was in Bessemer City Memorial Cemetery. IDA E. WARE Ida Emerson Ware, 85, of Route 2, Kings Mountain, died Friday at Kings Mountain Hospital. She was a native of Cumberland County and the daughter of the late Alonso W. and Katherine Wishart Emer son. She was the widow of the late Jasper Franklin Ware. She was an honorary member of the Administrative Board of El Bethel United Methodist Church. Surviving are two sons, Jasper R. Ware and Gene A. (Bud) Ware, both of Kings Mountain; two daughters, Mary Katherine Mezger of Windermere, Fla., and Rosalyn George of Aiken, S. C.; two brothers, George Emerson of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Emmett Emerson of Kan napolis; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services were con ducted Saturday at 2 p.m. at El Bethel United Methodist Church by the Rev. Sidney Lanier. Burial was in the church cemetery.
