Leagues last week and are now
eyeing the annual league tour
naments.
First Wesleyan defeated El
Bethel 37-35 Tuesday to run its
unbeaten record to 90. Boyce
Memorial edged Macedonia
38-36 Thursday to run its record
to 7-1.
The Tuesday Night standings
include First Wesleyan 90, East
Gold 5-4, First Baptist 5-4, El
Bethel 4-5, David Baptist 3-6 and
First Presbyterian lO.

Checker
Tournament
The Kings Mountain Aging
Program will sponsor a checker
tournament March 1-29 at the
Depot Center.
Contestants must be 60 or
older and may register at the
Depot Center by February 23.
The winner will receive a
steak dinner at Meda's Kountry
Kitchen, donated by Wilie
Wallace. Other contributions
have been made by Griffin
Drug, Cornwell Drug, and
TG&Y.

Gaston game. Those two teams
battle tonight at 6:30.

Shelby’s girls, a 6741 winner
over Burns Tuesday, will battle
North Gaston at 5 p.m. and the
East Rutherford boys face Burns
at 8 p.m.
The tournament continues
through Saturday night, with

Nova Scotia, starts his medical
practice in Bessemer City today,
Wednesday, Februry 17. He is
joining Dr. Bruce Wallace in
family medical practice at Dr.
.Wallace’s offices located at
119-B West Pennsylvania
Avenue.
With the addition of another
medical doctor to work with
him. Dr. Wallace is now in a
position to expand his office
hours. The two doctors working
together will receive appoint
ments Mondays through Fridays
from 9 ajn. until 5 pan. Hours
for Saturdays will be from 9 a.m.

Kings Mountain High’s cagers
gave their fans a lot of offense to
cheer about as they closed out
regular season Southwestern 3-A
Conference action Friday night
at the KMHS gym.
Both clubs closed in on the
century scoring mark in sweep
ing a twinbill. The girls went on
their biggest scoring spree in
many years, defeating the
winless Lady Trojans 96-35, and
the boys scored a 97-72 victory
to complete their second straight
championship season.
Five players scored in double
figures for the Mounties, who
scored their 17th victory in 18
conference outings. They finish
ed regular season play with an
overall record of 21-1.
Carl Smith and Demetrius
Goode led the way with 20
points each and Terrence
Blalock added 17. Reserve David
Hager came off the bench to
score a season’s high 13 points
and Jimmy Brown, Smith’s
backup point guard, added 10.
The Trojans, led by the hot-
shooting of Vernilious
McDowell, who was the game’s
top scorer with 24 points, led
during the early going. They
were up by 16-15 afte; the first
period before the Mounties got
their fast break going and turned
the game into a rout. By
halftime, KM was up 42-32 and
led 64-52 going into the fourth
period, when they put 33 points
on the board.
Kings Mountain’s girls got
their offense going early and
never let up as they clinched
Trina Hamrick and Angie Bell
tossed in 30 points apiece to lead
the scoring.
The Mountainettes jumped to
a 174 first quarter lead and had
the game on ice, 44-7, at inter
mission. They led 64-14 going in
to the fourth quarter.

1982.
With the arrival of Dr. Bano
to join Dr. Wallace, a long-time
need for Bessemer City has been
fulfilled. As the city’s only
medical doctor. Dr. W^ace has
had to carry a heavy work load.
When Dr. Wallace started his
practice here, Bessemer Qty was
in desperate need of a doctor.
After the late Dr. Robert L.
Moore closed his medical offices
here in August of 1972, the only
practicing doctor for the
Bessemer City area was the late
Dr. Bert G. Lindsey who had a
limited practice. Following Dr.
Lindsey’s death in August of
1979, Bessemer City was com
pletely without a doctor until
Dr. Wallace arrived from Nova
Scotia that Gall to open his offices
here.
Dr. Wallace’s medical practice
has grown to require a fhll staff
including a medi^ technician.
