Mayes, Mrs. Virginia Herndon Baker, Judge and Mrs. Pope Lyon, Miss Tucker Pope Lyon and Mrs. Ann Mayes Ware. for children ages 6-12. Children under six will be admitted free. The Kings Mountain Senior High Blazer Band received a superior rating at the South Cen tra District Band Contest Fri day at West Charlotte High School. The KMHS band per formed in the Grade Six division, which is the most difficult divi sion. This is the sixth con secutive year that both the junior and senior high bands have received superior ratings. Winners from the five elemen tary schools. Central and Kings Mountain Junior High bees will compete for the right to repre sent the district in the annual Charlotte Observer Spelling Bee. Individual KM winners in clude: Grover School - Tracy Mor rison, II-year-old fifth grader, and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Morrison of Grover. She is a student in Mrs. Steve Beam’s room. West - Michel Shan Conner, 11-year-old fifth grader and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Conner of Kings Mountain. He attends First Baptist Church, is active in RA. and Young Musi cians and plays on the C&C Metal basketball team. Bethware - Ashley Champion, a fourth grader and daughter of Carl Champion of Kings Moun tain. She is a student is Mrs. Susan White’s room. She enjoys reading, swimming, sports and cheerleading and wants to be a teacher. North - Candi Black, a fifth grader and daughter of Patricia and Johnny Black of Shelby Road, Kings Mountain. She is a student in Mrs. Beth Fender’s class and spelled “beagle” to win the North spelling bee. She en joys roller skating, swimming, drawing and reading. East - Dale Greene, fifth grader and the son of Diane AU- mond of Kings Mountain and Larry Greene of Gastonia. He is in Maxine Grayson’s class and likes baseball. Central - Kenney Potter, 11 -year-old sbcth grader and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Potter of Kings Mountain. He enjoys reading and singing and recently won first place in Central’s talent show with a vocal rendition of “Pac-Man Fever.” Junior High - Jennifer Bradley, an eighth grader and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Bradley of Kings Mountain.
