She was a member of El Bethel United Methodist Church and the wife of the late Phillip Key Harmon. Survivors include one son, Earl Harmon of Kings Moun tain; one sister, Katherine Ware of Branford, Fla.; six grand children and six great grandchildren. Services were conducted Sun day at 4 p.m. at El Bethel United Methodist Church by the Rev. Sidney Lanier, the Rev. E.B. Murphy and Chaplain Jack Cook. Burial was in the church cemetery. MRS. MATTHEWS Mrs. Bertha Alexander Mat thews, 78, of Shelby Road, died Friday at 5 p.m. at Kings Moun tain Hospital following several weeks illness. A native of Gaston County, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Morris Alexander and was a retired textile employee. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. She is survived by her hus band, Leroy Matthews; five brothers, Ralph Alexander of Charlotte, and Fred, Cleveland, John and Ernest Alexander, all of Lincointon; three sisters, Mrs. Lillian Costner of Baltimore, and Mrs. Walter Payseur and Mrs. Carrie Belle Lineberger, both of High Shoals. Services were conducted Sun day at 3 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church by the Rev. George Sherrill and the Rev. Leonard Huffstetler. Burial was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. MARY JEFFERSON Mary Jane McCluney Jeffer son, 74, of Route 1, died Friday at Kings Mountain Hospital. She was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church and Her ron of Jerico. Surviving are her husband, Roosevelt Jefferson Sr.; three sons, Roosevelt Jefferson Jr. of High Shoals; Johnny Jefferson of Cherryville and Jasper Jeffer son of the home; three daughters, Hattie Thompson and Betty Burch of Kings Moun tain, and Virginia Hill of Winston-Salem; two brothers. Buddy McCluney of Kings Mountain and Dock McCluney of Baltimore; five sisters, Macie Patterson of Gastonia, Nellie White, Lily Curry, Jessie Mae Woods and Gracie Barnes, all of Kings Mountain; 18 grand children and four great grandchildren. Bailey, 66, formerly of Kings Mountain, died Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at Grady Hipps Nursing Home after several months il lness. A native of Jackson County, Ga., he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Grady Bailey. He was a retired textile employee and a member of the Kings Mountain Church of God. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Bailey; four daughters, Mrs. Buddy Belk of Columbia, and Mrs. Margaret Louise White, Mrs. Coy Black and Mrs. Joyce Putnam, all of Kings Mountain; three sisters, Mrs. Junios Boles, Mrs. Albert Hicks and Miss Ruth Bailey, all of Greenville; and 10 grand children. Services were conducted Mon day at 3 p.m. at Harris Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. S.W. Avery and the Rev. Ray Moore. Burial was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. LEE ROY JONES LAWNDALE - The Rev. Lee Roy Jones, 67, died Thursday night at his home. A Cleveland County native, he was the son of the late Frances and Arrie White Jones, and was a retired textile worker and minister. He is survived by his wife, Della Mae Brackett Jones; three sons, Nathan R. Jones of Hickory, Toy Lee Jones of Cher ryville and Michael Jones of .Shelby; two daughters, Mrs. Charles (Margaret) Smart of Kings Mountain and Mrs. Nor ris (Linda) Head of Shelby; one brohter. Jack Jones of Shelby; three sisters, Mrs. Elsie Black of Kings Mountain and Mrs. Faye Spangler and Mrs. Fannie Ran dall, both of Lawndale; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Services were conducted Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at Com munity Baptist Church by the Rev. Carl Ray Cook and the Rev. Glenn Ballard. Burial was in the church cemetery. MABEL GAMBLE SHELBY - Mrs. Mbel T. Gam ble, 74, of 1018 South DeKalb Street, died Sunday at Cleveland Memorial Hospital. A Cleveland County native, she was the daughter of the late Claude and Minnie Hovis Turner, and the wife of the late Ulice “Pete” Gamble. She was a retired employee of Ella Mill and a member of Bethel Baptist Church. Survivors include three sons, Claude Gamble and David Gam ble, both of Shelby, and John Gamble of Fallston; a daughter, Mrs. Jane Curry of Kings Moun tain; five brothes, Marvin Turner, J.D. Turner, Claude Lee Turner, Howard Turner and Albert Turner, all of Shelby; two sisters, Mrs. Ethel Bridgeman of Hickory and Mrs. Eva Langston of Silsbee, Tex.; 13 grand children and three great grandchildren. Services were conducted Tues day at Friendly Chapel Baptist Church by the Rev. Fred Green. Burial was in the church cemetery. MRS. HUTTO Mrs. Naomi Lytton Hutto, 76, 6500 Margrace Road, died Monday at 5 p.m. at Cleveland Memorial Hospital. A Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Mr. ;uid Mrs. Logan Lytton and the widow of Henry Lee Hutto Sr. She was a member of Midview Baptist Church. Survivors include three sons, William Carroll Hutto of Charlotte and Lee Hutto Jr. and Harold Hutto, both of Kings Mountain; four daughters, Mrs. Ben Holcomb and Mrs. Thomas Dotson of Caroleen, and Mrs. Vernon Smith and Mrs. Bob Sellers, both of Kings Mountain; 20 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Services were, conducted Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Midview Baptist Church by the Rev. Fred Wells and the Rev. John Heath. Burial was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. MRS. SHEPPARD GROVER - Mrs. Pinkie Har din Sheppard, 71, of Route 1, died Monday at 4:45 p.m. at her home following a sudden illness. A native of Cleveland Coun ty, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Fortenberry and the widow of the late Roy L. Hardin. She is survived by two sons. Rev. Albert Hardin of Lebon, Va., and Forrest Hardin of Grover; one daughter, Mrs. Bill (Betty) Allen of Grover; three sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Williams of Mooresboro, Mrs. Gladys Borders of Shelby and Mrs. Em ma Welch of Kings Mountain. Services were conducted Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Allen Memorial Baptist Church by the Rev. Dean Proctor and the Rev. Claude Lasley. Burial was in the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church cemetery. SAMUEL SMITH Samuel Ervin Smith, 90, of Route I, died Sunday at 9 a.m. after a sudden illness. A Burke County native, he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Carson Smith and was a retired textile employee. He was a member and deacon at Cherokee Street Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Froneberger Smith; one son, Albert Smith of Gastonia; five daughters, Mrs. Nola Morrow and Mrs. Lennie Trout, Ledford Win KMCC Scotch Foursome Guy Trout and Connie Led ford fired a 41 to win the nine- hole Scotch Foursome Golf Tournament, sponsored by the Women’s Golf Association of Kings Mountain Country Club, Sunday. Twenty one-man, one-woman teams competed.
