Governor Luther H,Hodges was a visitor at
Ocracoke on Good Friday, bringing with
him Col, Harry Brovffi of the Statens
Hurricane Rehabilitation Council, Togeth
er they spent Friday afternoon inspecting
the proposed site of the new Ocracoke
road,various projects of the National
Park Administration, and the beach and
dune areas ravaged by high v.'ater during
the fall hurricane season. State High
way Engineer L.N,Spruill of Ahoskie
took the Governor and Col.Brown on to
Hatteras Inlet on Saturday norninga
Allen F,Hanks,Supt,of the Seashore Nat
ional Park was here, VJoodrow Pidce of
the News & Observer and Noel Yancey of
AP,Charlotte, flew over on Friday mornr’
ing (stopping for a little unsuccessful
surf-casting at Cape Lookout!), MrscRrice
and the children and Mrs,Yancey,along
with others came that afternoon on the
State Boat with the Governor and his
party, since the "Dolphin" was not running
that day. Others of the large Easter-
visiting crowd came on a Morehead City
boat,the "Blue Water",chartered by RoS,
Wahab,
Governor Hodges and Col,Brown had supper
with Mr,and Mrs, Rondthaler, and the
Governor spent the night there, enjoying
an evening of reminiscence v/ith his
former college roommate and friend
Theodore, Mrso Rondthaler combined
Ocracoke seafood (shrimp salad, fried
scallops) vdth Virginia Ham and Boston
Brown Bread so that both Yankee and
Southern tastes were well satisfiedo

Feliic Flieg of Norfolk visited her

were at Wahab Hotel and visiting Mrs*
Annie Fulcher* Mrs,,Helen Barksdale and
Susan occupied their cottage for
several days* Mr,and Mrs.Charles Run

Rondthalersn Guests at Wahab Village
Hotel included Dr,J, EoHerribt of Raleigh,
Mr.and Mrs,E,.A.Andersor.^Jr, and David
of Wrightsville5 Mr,and Mrs,A,G^Allen
and family and Mr,and Mrs„Leon Rice,Jr,
and family and Betsy Dunn of V/inston—
Salerno (Mary Jane Allen, Sally Rice,and
Betsy Dunn wanted very much te stay on
for a week and attend Ocracoke School
and get some more prny riding lessonsi)

Silver Lake Inn, managed temporarily
by Mrs,Bessie Howard, had a number of
guests,among them Lt.Col.Kievan and
family of Rittsburg, Mr,and Mrs,H,CoEllis
