His music is rhapso YOU ARE THE DETECTIVE As you enter the crowded, smoked-filied bar, your eye i.s immedi ately caught by the body of the dead racketeer, Danny Davis, lying sprawled on the floor in front of tire telephone booth. You note the crimson-stained bullet hole in his white-shirted stomach, then you carefully step over the body into the phone booth, with your hand kerchief-covered hand remove the receiver from the hook, drop in your coin, and dial Detective Lieutenant Art Regan at headQuai tei s. After Lieutenant Regan arrives about ten minutes later, you both listen to the story of Smokey Rossini, the owner of the bar. “I was busy tending bar about thirty minutes or so ago when Davis walks in the front door and hurries over into the phone booth. He looked kind of excited or worried, or some thing. Kept glancing out at the front door while he was dial ing his number. Then I got busy again washing some glasses while he was talking . . . ! could hear him mumbling over the phone . . . then suddenly ! hear him yelling into the phone, 'Mike, acre he comes now . . . he's got me! “Then I hear a couple of shots from the door . . . saw a big fellow running across the sidewalk, jump into a black car out on the street and speed away I look back at Davis. He's dropped the receiver and is all bent over, holding his stomach . . . then he backs out of the booth and falls onto the floor." You turn to Lieutenant Regan. "I was walking along the street about a block away. I heard the shots and ran over here, where I found Rossini here sitting on one of the bar stools staring down at Davs 1 body. ‘Yeh,“ adds Rossini, shaking his head mournfully. “It all hap pened so fast, I didn't know what to do " “You say Davis backed out of the booth be'ore falling to the floor,” says Lieutenant Regan. “Do you mean he opened the door first?” “Oh . . . no, he had the door open the whole time he wat talking." “You didn't go to him after he was shot to make sure he was dead?” you ask. "No, i could see that frem where I was standing. I didn’t go near him ... I didn't want to touch anything. I know how you guys are about that.” You seem to know that lesson pretty well, you agree. “But now you’re going to learn something else that you can't get away with the story you've just told us!" What i.s wrong with Smokey Rossini's story. SOLUTION Rossini said that the victim had dropped the receiver when he was shot. Yet. when you stepped into the booth to phone Lieutenant Regan, you found the receiver on the hook Rossini also said that he hadn't touched anything after the shooting. 1960 1960 VOLVO & VOLKSWAGEN Immediate Delivery Clean Used Cars Available Weaver Bros.
