“SOVIET LIFE IN GENERAL' DISCUSSED AT SHAW Dr. William H E Johnson, professor of education, University of Pittsburgh, compares the general standard of living in the So viet Union with that of the United States of America, which revealed that the United States is stiff ahead of Russia, at Shaw University last week. BY SALLY SHAW DEAR SALLY: Some of us rir!s had s big discussion recently re garding women who visit cocktail lounges unescorted, and we all a, greed that this is decidedly im proper. that these women give all the appearance of being on the prow! and that they are fair game for wolves However, some of the OLD GRAND DAD 86 PROOF $035 13 jp U PINT ! I can't, go along with this, be cause I myself (being an unmar ried girl) do like an occasional din ner out in some nice eating f>!ace and I certainly do not place my self m the category of a predatory frnnale, I'd like very much to know your views on this BACHELOR GIRL DEAR BACHELOR GIRL: You're perfectly all right. Peo ple visit restaurants to eat. They visit cocktail lounges to drink ... or to find com pany. A man “on the hunt" does not stalk his game in a res taurant or hotel dining room— but he DOES look in cocktail lounges. DEAR SALLY: I'm in love with a wonderful girl whom I want to marry At present though. I have nothing to offer her. and we've agreed to wait until she finishes college in another four years. I want to give her an engagement ring now. but some of our friends think a four-year engagement is too long What’s wrong with that'’ If we love each other (and we do), being en gaged will simply bind us together more firmly. How about it? PHIL DEAR PHIL: Why be in such a hurry to tie this girl up? Are you possibly afraid lhat she’ll meet another fellow who roii'id pose a threat? When a person says, “Stop me if you’ve heard this one,” and then really does launch on a tired old joke you’ve previously heard, is ii polite to take him at his word and stop him?
