Final Rites For 3 Youths
DUNN—Tragedy is the one aspect of the American way of life
that goes beyond color, transcends any apparent discrimination and
in many instances unfolds the true nature of human beings. That is
the kind <Yf spirit that has been manifested in and around the com
munity where three small boys lost their lives in an icy pond, situated
about one mile from the highway at the end of a murky road, in Sampson County, Sunday.
The final chapter was written Wednesday afternoon when the bodies of Joseph Beamon Wd

Church. A grieving mother, aforlorn father, a large
number of brothers and sister nephews, neices. school

church and heard the minister say the rites
Farm people of both races kept a con Union -■ flow
of traffic into the funeral home, all day Tuesday,
where the three lads were viewed. Many curious whi*e j
people wanted to know when the bodies would be
brought to the church.
The CAROLINIAN vathefed the story from mam !
people. A brother of the two Williams boys related j
how the trio was mi c sed.Jong before night. Sunday and
due to the fact that, it was not dark no alarm war
made. But ere the shades of night began to creep over
the little farm community and knowing it was the
custom of the Williams to bathei around the fireside,
on a cold wintry night, the household was disturbed.
The search began and the footprints of the three thru
the snow, led to the pond, less than 200 yards from
the newly-built shell home
Upon reaching the pond, the sea itching party rea- 1
dily realized that the ice-covered pond had lured the
boys into its frozen waters bite to the fact that the I
coat of one of the boys was found on the bank The ,
alarm went out and it was not, lone before rescue j
squads and expert diver were on hand. The ice was \
broken and a boat was placed in the water and about
9:00 P. M the three bodies wore fished from a watery |
