TRIES TO PULL MAN INTO ALLEY, JAILED Leamon Byrd, 52, of 122 E. Marge* Street (Home Eckers Hotel), told Officer Otis Hin ton, Jr., at 11 p. m. Friday, that Percy Williams, 18, of 8 W. Worth Street, tried to pull him into an alley, off the 300 block of S. East Street. Williams was jailed after Mr. Byrd signed a warrant, charg ing assault and battery and damage to property. The sport coat, worn by Byrd tv as torn at the left sleeve in the attempt to pull him into the alley. Damage to the cost wa3 estimated at $5. Cabarrus Street (a vacant lot), borrowed a jack to change his flat tire, and returned the jack to its owner. Davie Street and struck a 1955 Ford, belonging to Mrs. Minnie Mae Matthews, of 3613 Holly Springs Road, w hich was parked at the north curb in the 300 block. The car was headed east, Mickcns reportedly left the scene of the accident after striking the car. but he was "grabbed" thirty minutes lat er by two other cops, charged with hit-and-run driving and driving alter his license had been revoked. The announcement was made by President Samuel P Massie, who indicated also that Robert L. Mc- Adams, assistant dean of men, has been appointed acting dean of men. Stewart, who has served as dean of men at the college for nearly twenty years, is a native of Clarks ville, Tenn.
