Humphrey will de liver the principal address fol lowing the formal dedication of the new North Carolina Mutual Life Insurance Company home office building, Saturday, April 2, according to an announce ment made recently by A. T. Spaulding, president of the com pany. The Vice-President will be introduced by Governoi Dan K. Moore. Dedication ceremonies are scheduled to begin at 10:30 a. m. with the unvieling of state seals by the governor or other state officials of the states in which the North Carolina Mutual op erates, after which will be the formal dedication of the build ing. The main address will then be delivered by the Vice- President. The April 1 and 2 dedica tion ceremonies will also pre sent an in depth study of the Negro’s Achievement and his contribution to American life, past, present and future, with outstanding leaders participat ing in seminars on government, business, education, communi cation, labor, literature and the arts, religion, and sports. Dean Howe spent the after noon on the campus conferring with members of the Depart ment of Education and Psycho logy and talking to majors in the department. He addressed the group and other interested students and faculty members at the end of the day. “If we believe that teachers are a vital part of the educa tional process, we,” likeacer tain airline he mentioned, “must demand of them the high est certification available to day. MUTUAL BUILD ING - Shown in the above photos are persons who will be in Durham this weekend to play major parts in the dedication of the new home office building of North Carolina Mutual Life Insurance Company. The dedication speaker will be Vice-President of the United States Hubert H. Humphrey, who will be heard on Saturday, April 2. N. C. Governor Dan K. Moore will introduce the Vice-President. Dr. Asa T. Spaulding is president of the company, largest Negro-owned insurance company in the world. He has served as the president since 1959. Dr. Robert C. Weaver, recently appoint ed Secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban De velopment, will take part in the dedication activities on both Friday and Saturday. George L. P. Weaver, Assistant Sec retary for International Affairs will conduct the Seminar on Labor, which will -be a part of a Symposium on “The Ne gro in the American Economy.” Secretary of Commerce John T. Connor will be a featured speaker during the dedica tion ceremonies. Dr. Andrew F. Brimmer, Assistant Secre tary for Economic Affairs in the Department of Commerce and newly named member of the Federal Reserve Board, will deliver the keynote address on the Symposium on Fri day morning, April 1. Joseph W. Goodloe is the executive vice-president and secretary of N. C. Mutual. He has moved up to the position of executive vice-president in his forty year tenure with the company. The new home office building ‘s an ultra-modern 12 story structure, located on 3.sacies now called Mutual Plaza on W. Chapel Hill Street in Durham. The unique appearance of the building is made possible bj sculptored, pre-cast, pre-stressedand post-tensioned concrete construction with exposed aggregate finish on the peripheral walls. ?/«, W.
