SATURDAY, JUNE 11. 1966 12 Hopping About Tmheeiw INTEGRATED GRADUATES ROCKY MOUNT - With the graduation of the 321-member 1066 Class of the Rocky Mount Senior High School - 168 girls and boys - there emerged nine colored girls and one colored boy. This was the third year the Senior class at the school has been integrated. Veda Clark was the lone colored student graduate in 1965, Purcell Farmer and Barbara McGee were honor grads of the first integrated class in 196-4. They are reportedly doing well in college. Included in the class last week are: Ronald Miller, Linda Har grove, Emma Walker, Jocelyn Harrison, Edna Haywood, San dra Gwynn, Carolyn Harper, Uneeda Brewer, and Patricia and Sharon Reid (sisters). At Enfield, twenty miles north in Halifax County, there were five colored members of the first inte grated graduating class of the Enfield Graded (High) School. They were Al bert Gee, Ira Dale Saunders, Mary Bullock, Gerald Scott and Wayne Carroll. There were forty in the class. Meanwhile, the all-colored T. S. Inborden High School grad uated 53 under the principal ship of L. M. Williams. Gwen dolyn Bailey was valedictorian, and Eloise Johnson gave the sa lutatory. The Rev. M. L. Wil liams, Baptist field worker for Eastern North Carolina, deliv ered the sermon. The various conservative groups Eastern Tarheelia are emerging with “private” school plans and charters as well as ‘private’ recreational centers and swimming pools. Ai least one such group is in the pro cess of organizing among No- Tabor City News TABOR CITY - The morn ing service was opened at 11 a. m. Sunday with the pastor, the Rev. V. S. Singletary, in charge, and music rendered by church choir. During the sermonette hour, Little Miss Williams was nam ed best historian for the day. Offering was taken by Deacon J. Johnson and friend. A mess age in song by the choir. The morning message was preached by the pastor. The text was found in John, 14th chapter and 18th verse. The subject: “He Has Not and He Will Not Leave Us.” The ser vice was most enjoyable. There were no joiners. Rev. Williams, our State Mis sionary was guest at the morn ing service. The First Baptist Church sent three representatives to camp at Shaw University, Raleigh. They were Miss Nevella Man ning, Miss Thelma Vereen, and Miss Novella Nealy. F(ora St. Paul there were also three: Mr. Rickey Smith, Mr. C, Wright, and Miss Esta Vereen. There were 2 representatives from Have's River, one from Spring Green, Mr. Russell Bry ant. This group was accompanied by Rev. and Mrs. V. S. Sin gletary. Spring Hill Naws BY MRS. GRADIE B. O’NEAL Sunday School each Sun. morning at 10 a. m. with the Supt., Mr. Waylon Scorbor in charge. Kear ney; 6th class Brother Neal. Service began at 11:15 a. m. with Male Chorus in charge. Our pastor talked from Exd. 37:17 verse. Subject; “You Can Depend on God; Can He De pend on You'”’ Our annual Sun. School pic nic will be on the 3rd Sat. in June, at Chavis Park. Our revival will begin on the 4th Sunday in June, with the Rev. W. E. Egerton, of Raleigh, as the guest minister at 3rd Sun. Service by the pastor for the building fund. Mrs. Aldonia Blaylock is very glad to have her son home from the Ai: Force. Mr. Thomas Blaylock. On our sick list is Sister Sa rah Lee. We are hoping her a speedy recovery. The Spring Hill Sunday school met with the Inter-Denorni - national union at the White Oak Hill Church with the Pres. Mr. W. M. Darden in charge. With five classes we had a wonder ful review by Bro. St. Shaw. All men met at the church Wednesday night on June 1. We had men's day June 5 with the men in charge. Sermon was preached by the pastor, Rev. Otha Kearney. Our Sunday School will hold its an nual picnic on the 3rd Sat urday in June. Sick one: Sis ter Ella Talton, Sister Martha Scorbor. We are praying for them a speedy recovery. Rocky Mount's all - colored Booker Washington High School graduates 146 this year. Dr. Rufus Perry, president, J. C. Smith University, Charlotte, gave the annual address in which he admonished the class - oth ers, too - to strive for the best in life, and if, perchance, they cannot obtain college at this time, to not dispair, but ever seek to build upon the foundation of education they have thus far gained, realizing that only those who continue to advance themselves in know ledge - can hope to succeed. Brenda Estelle Armstrong was class valedictorian. Viola Cynthia Clarey was salutatorian. President of the senior class was Robert Corbett, JiAn nie Bulluck, V. pres., Vernon Ross, secy., and Audrey Jen kins, treasurer. R. D. arm strong is principal of BTW High. Retiring from the schoolroom here were Charles T. Edwards, who has served more than 35 years in the local school sys tem. She has been signed to an exclusive seven-year contract by Columbia Studios and is ap pearing, although not as a star, in the film “The Silencers.”
