He says: "Fools make a mock at sin” (Prov. 14:9), for, not only does sin in its very nature break down, rather than build up, but as responsible creatures sin ners will one day have to give an account of their conduct to the God who created them. To look at the brighter side, we may all rejoice in another indication that sin is no joke io God. St. Paul points it out in I Cor. 15:3, where he says: "Christ died for our sins.'” Christ knew the horrible results of sin and the dreadful penalty which justice must visit upon it. Yes, and He also knew that*‘all have sinned and come short of the glory of God”-(Rom. 3;23) and in infinite love He left the glories of heaven and stooped to bear the disgrace and penalty for sin Himself! ‘‘Christ ... hath once suffered for sins, the Just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God” (I Pet. 3;18) and those who come to know God through faith in Christ experience peace and joy which this world can never afford. an enjoyable service. Johnson Sr., at Bell’s Methodist church, got off to a good start last week, when the Negro minister was warmly received by the white congre gation. Many members of the church, following his sermon, stopped to shake his hand. EAST ST. LOUIS, MO. - The leaders of the Missouri Confer ence, AME Zion Church, took stock of the struggle of the Negro to gain full citizenship rights and issued a statement at the closing session of the annual conference, held at St. Joiin AME Ziori Church, June 7-12. Bishop \v. A. Hilliard pre sided over the meet and prais ed the committee for its stand. The committee took a look at the economic, political, social and religious life of the nation. It was mindful of the progress being made toward full employ ment. It also pointed out that in the midst of seeming pros perity there was still the Watts, the Harlem and the Miss, spots that prove that there was gross imbalance. The report was hopeful that the nation, through President Johnson's War-on- Poverty and a well formulated plan through church and civic committees, could present a program that would properly implement the movement. The committee was also mindful of the responsibility, on the part of the Negro, to merit full citizenship. It point ed out that Negroes have not fully appreciated and impact of the Voter Rights Law. It warn ed that there is too much apathy among Negroes toward voting. It pointed to the fact that not only in Mississippi and other southern communities had the Negro not taken full opportunity, bul in states where there has been no trouble in registering and voting there had not been the kind of interest exhibited that tended to show that the Ne gro was concerned enough to turn out in large numbers at the polls. MEDITATION A SERMONETTE BY COLIN DOUGLAS "Jehovah will be thy con fidence.” —Prov. 3;26. No one of us should ever feel that he is a failure. It may be that we have not meas ured up to the standards or goals we previously set for ourselves or accomplished what we have seen someone else ac complish. But most certainly we have gained knowledge and spiritual stamina through our efforts and through our experi ences. We have not failed! No one achieves his heart’s desire in one stride. But every step u’e take toward the a chievement of our goal adds to our knowledge and understand ing -- and therefore, every step is vitally important. It is the unfolding of and the us ing of our God-given talents that give you the conficence that makes life a wonderful adventure. Whenever you feel discour aged or inept in comparison with someone else, remember that God has equipped you with the material out of which to create a life that will be sat isfying and fulfilling to you. You must remember that your life need not be like anyone else’s life, for your part in God’s great plan is not like anyone else’s part. Remembgr that, through prayer, you can discover your own powers and your own place in the world. If you are fac ed with some situation that seems hopeless or impossible of solution, remember that Je sus told us, "...with God all things are possible.” Dare to believe that "in some way or other the Lord will provide,” and courage and faith will fill your heart. It does not matter what other people tell you, it does not matter what the ex periences of others have been, no situation is hopeless or be yond God’s help. Take your needs and desires to the Lord in prayer. "Ask, and it shall given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it will be opened unte ■.m:," —Matt. 7:7.
