A Godlen Wedding march was followed by the singing of "My Rosary’’ by Lorenzo Battle and words of welcome by Mrs. Har ris (the only child, altho the couple reared several foster children). Rev. Earl Pretty prayed and Mr. Battle sang ‘‘The Lord’s Prayer.” Mrs. Harris presented her parents and the ceremony was performed with the repledging of the marriage vows which were, again, sealed with a fer vent kiss which no one could doubt that the seasoned couple really mean -- after fifty years together. Mr. Battle sang "Because,” and the hundred or more rela tives and guests moved into the adjacent home of the happy couple where they posed for photographs with their close relatives and "waiters” at their original wedding. After cut ting a wedding cake they receiv ed their many guests. Mr. Rich ardson is 74 years of age. Both are life-long residents of the W’ake-Franklin Counties area. Members of the original wed ding party in 1916 present for the Golden Anniversary were, in addition to the honorees, Ja son Richardson, Mrs. Margie Ellis, Mrs. Bertha Jones Mor gan and David Hurley Heggins. Other relatives included; Wesley Downey, Frank W. Heg gins, Arthur K, Heggins, Mrs. Geneva Bethea, Mrs. Marie W. David) Heggins,Mrs. Helen Pet tlford Heggins, Mrs. Matilda Heggins and Miss Virginia Dare Heggins. All are descendants of the late Frank and Joanna Heggins. Among the out-of-towners present were: Mrs. Leota Grade, New York City; Mr. and Mrs. Bruce (Corlease)Morgan, Jake Joyner, Mrs. Annie Smith, and Mrs. Annie H, Harren, all of Rocky Mount, and Moses Rlchtrdccn, Durham, r. R P*s To Adrorfe Dr. Speigner Will Attend Canadian Geography Meet DURHAM - Dr. Theodore R. Speigner, chairman of the De partment of Geography and dir ector of the Division of Re sources - Use Education at Faculty Institute Planned DURHAM - North Carolina College’s faculty institute, sch eduled for Tuesday and Wednes day, September 6 and 7, will feature six professional ses sions, two of them addressed by distinguished educators. At the first general session at 9 a.m., Tuesday, William Jones, chairman of the interim committee administering the college, will greet old and new faculty members and will dis cuss the general theme of the Institute; "Implications of Lo cal. Regional, and National Norms of Performance for North Carolina College.'' At the second session at 10:10 a.m., Dr. William E. Cadbury Jr., director, Broadening Op portunities Program, Haver for College, will deliver the principal address. The third general session, which begins at 2 p.m., will be concerned with the college’s examination of some of its in ternal polcies and procedures. Dr. Cecil Patterson, acting di rector of the Summer School, will discuss the college’s class attendance policy; and Dr. Jo seph A. Pitman, professor of education, will discuss the col lege’s probation list. The fourth session, beginning at 3:35 p.m., will continue the internal examinations as treat ed in the third session, with considerations of travel policy and attendance at scholarly meetings by Dr. Stew-art B, Fulbright, dean of the Under graduate School, and faculty policies on research and "Va ria, ” the college’s journal, by Dr. Helen G. North Carolina College at Dur ham, will attend the sixty- se cond annual convention of tha Association of American Geo graphers at the Royal York H otel and the University of To ronto, Canada, August 28-Sept. 1. Spelgner Is a member of the association’s Cooperation Col leges Committee for Southern Colleges, which sponsored an eight weeks session at Clark University, Worcester, Mass, for students attending predom inantly Negro colleges of the South and border states. He will participate as a consultant in a sectional meeting dealing with climatology and soils. NCC Requests $3.9 Million For Biennium DURHAM - North Carolina College officials last Wednes day requested $3,943,000 In capital improvement funds for the 1967-69 biennium during a visit to the campus by the State Advisory Budget Commission. William Jones, NCC business manager and chairman of the interim committee administer ing the college until a presi dent is selected, said this a mount is needed to cover ad equately the needs of an ex pected student enrollment of 2,789 by the end of 1969. The college now enrolls 2,449 stu dents. Given first priority in the request were repairs to the men’s gymnasium, renovation of the fine arts building, repairs and construction of roads and parking areas, air-conditioning of six buildings which receive year-round use, and resurfac ing of tennis courts and re pairs to the track. Next in priority were major renovations or additions to build ings. These included land pru chases totaling $200,000; an ad dition to the home economics building, $122,000; installation of a clock system, $18,000; an addition to the current storage building, $35,000; an addition to the maintenance shop, $43,000; arid campus planning, $25,000. Jordan, mother of Mrs. Theo dore R. Spelgner, a teacher at Hillside High School, Durham, died Monday evening in Flint, Michigan, after a lengthy ill ness. Funeral services will be held later this week in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Surivors include Mrs. Spelg ner; two sons, Fred Jordan of Flint, Edward Jordan, Buffalo, N. Y.; three sisters, Mrs. Tho mas Wheeler, Flint, Mrs. Al lie Henderson, Tuscaloosa, and Mrs. Mollie Jefferson, Artesta, Miss., one brother, Thomas Jefferson, Tuscaloosa; and five grandchildren. Mrs. Jordan lived for se veral years In Durham with her daughter, Mrs. Spelgner, and attended White Rock Baptist Church before moving to Flint. A. member of the First Af rican Baptist Church in Tus caloosa, she sang in the sen ior choir for more than 40 vears and was an active member of the missionary circle and o ther church auxiiliaries. Mrs. Spelgner is the wife of Dr. T. R. Spelgner, chairman of the North Carolina College Department of Geography, head of the college’s Resource-Use Education program, and a mem ber of the Durham Board of Education.
