is receiving a SIOO,OOO increase
in a Department of Housing and
Urban Development loan to con
struct a new dormitory and
Student Union Building, Con
gressman Harold Cooley an
nounced last Friday.
With the increase, the total
loan from College Housing Loan
Funds will be $2,050,000.
The loan was originally ap
proved in February of this year.
It will be supplemented by SIOO,-
000 of the school’s own funds.
The new dormitory facility
will house 400 women students.

lic, will be held in the Science
Hall under the direction of the
Mathematics Department.
Under the new Shaw Plan of
Education, the course may also
be taken for college credit (1
hour) without extrance require
ments but credit will not be
given without satisfactory evi
-1 dence of successful completion.
Seven members of the Shaw
faculty in the Division of Na
tural Sciences and Mathema
tics will participate in the work
shop under the direction of Pro
fessor Lawrence Gould. A fee
$2.00 (or SIO.OO if college credit
is desired) includes cost of
books and materials. Enroll
ment is limited and applica
tions will be accepted on first -
come-first-served basis.
The contents of the workshop
will include: Elementary topics
in set theory. Numbers (cardi
nal and ordinal), Systems of no
tation including the Roman, E
gyptian and Greek. Our system
of notation (Hindu-Arabic). Oth
er scales of notation (including
changing from our base system
to another). Addition, multipli
cation, subtraction and division
in base ten and other base
(including the algorithms and
checks for these operations).
Fractions, multipliers and di
visors. Addition, multiplica
tion, subtraction and division of
common fractions and decimal
fractions. Percentage. Approx
imate numbers.
Murchison
Promoted
By CP&L
Wade B. Murchison, a veteran
of 20 years of service with Car
olina Power & Light Company,
has been promoted by the com
pany to service representative
in Burgaw, F. C. Lennon, man
ager of CP&L’s Wilmington dis
trict, has announced.
Murchison, a native of Gold
ston, assumes his new respon
sibilities after serving as a cus
tomer serviceman first class in
New Bern. He began his career
with CP&L in Sanford in March,
1946, after discharge from the
merchant marines.
A graduate of Goldston High
School, Murchison is married
to the former Hilda Gunter of
Sanford. The Murchison have
two children, Kathryn Dawn,
15, and Ashley Bryan, five.
