At 8:00, Saturday night, a pageant, "Through the Years: Three-quarters Century ci Challenge and Progress,” writ- Peace Corps Volunteer In Negeria A 1966 graduate of Shaw U niversity recently arrived in Nigeria to begin work in agri culture and rural development projects as a Peace Corps vol unteer. He is Walter E. Agers, who received the B. A. degree in sociology in the June com mencement exercises, Agers was among some 78 volunteers who traveled by chartered flight to the West African nation together with Jack Vaughn, director of the Peace Corps. This new group of volunteers were trained last summer for three months at the University of California at San Diego, where they studied three Ni gerian languages, its culture and history, world affairs and American history. Upon arrival in Nigeria's capital of Lagos, the Corpsmen underwent three days of addi tional orientation before going to their station In three south ern provinces of the country. Agers Is the son of Mrs, Bea trice Staftord, 2609 Arlee St., Winston-Salem. While a student at Shaw, he sang bass in the University Chorale Society, and is a mem ber of the Kappa Alpha Psl Fra ternity. Rcsleighite To Return To Alma Mater Lawrence E. Allen, a 1961 graduate of Shaw University, returned to his alma mater or. December 1 as director of fi nancial aid. Allen worked as a bookkeep er at Shaw from 1961 until 1960, when he became District Scout Executive of the Occo neechee Council, Boy Scouts of America. His new duties at Shaw will entail verifying students’ need for financial assistant and se curing the funds to meet same. A native of Raleigh, Mr. Al len graduated from the John W. Ligon High School. He Is a member of the O mega Psi Phi Fraternity, and married to the former Miss Beatrice Rodriguez. Department of Agriculture has scheduled an important meet ing Dec. 12 to explain Us food stamp program to retail and wholesale grocers In Harnett County.
