Salvation is actually corning into oneness with the Lord Je sus Christ. “The wages of sin is death” and “the soul that sinneth shall die,” but Christ was not a sinner. Alter having examined Him carefully, even Pilate said: “I find no fault in Him” and “I find no cause of death in Him” It was therefore not His death that He died at Calvary. It was ours. He had come from heaven to be born Into the hu man race as one of us to die our death. It is when we vi£w that death at Calvary and say: This is not His death He is dying. It is mine -- it is then that, by an act of faith, we become one with Him. His death was ours; the penalty for our sins, but it is not applied to us until by faith we accept His death as ours. | RIUGIOH and RACE j By Negro Press International TALLADEGA GRAD NAMED CHICAGO - An alumnus of Talladega (Ala.) college, and the Chicago Theological semi nary, was named last week as deputy diiector of Project Equality, the national interre ligious drive to put the pur chasing power of churches and synagogues behind equal employment opportunity pro grams. CHICAGO - There seems to be some question about the reason for transfer .last week of the Rev, Francis X, Law lor, 50-year-old Augustinian Catholic priest, from the Chi cago archdiocese. M, CL j Thus the Apostle Paul declares by divine inspiration; “I have been crucified with Christ” and he adds: “the life which I now lire in the flesh I live by the faith (the fidelity) of the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me” (Gal. 2:20). Since the believer has been united with Christ in death, he is united with Him in resur rection life too. Col. 2:12 says that believers are “buried with Him in baptism.” This is not baptism by water. This is a divine baptism, the work of the Holy Spirit, for he goes on to say: “wherein also ye are risen with Him through the faith of THE OPERATION OF GOD.” Little wonder the apostle be gins this lesson for believers with the declaration: “For in Him dwelleth all the fulness of the godhead bodily, and YE ARE COMPLETE IN HIM” (C01.2;9, 10). Now a fellow of the Center for the Study of Democratic Institutions, Bishop Crowther scored South Africa as the “most racist (country) in the world.’ RELIGIOUS BIAS WASHINGTON - A warning has been issued by the Labor department that government contracts will be lifted from firms found to be practicing religious discrimination in employment. Last week, the pre late was acquitted in Com mon Pleas court on two re maining charges involving $30,000. The court ruled in this case that the money “did in fact belong” to the bishop. RECRUIT NEGROES RICHMOND, Va, - During the recent annual council of the Episcopal Diocese of Vir ginia, the diocesan law-mak ing body called upon trustees of the seven church schools MEDITATIONS A SERMONETTE BY COLIN DOUGLAS “The blessing of Jehovah, It maketh rich.” --Prov. 10:22. There are, of course, many people who believe that the state of their finances cannot be help ed through prayer, but never theless there is a definite con nection between out realization of spiritual truth and the condi tion of our eternal life. We sometimes feel that if only we had more income all our troubles would be solved. It is good to think of ways to in crease our income, but true and lasting prosperity comes through increasing our under standing. The acquisition of more money does not guarantee peace of mind, but to acquire peace of mind does bring free dom from fear and from the feelings of insecurity that are the root of financial worry, no matter how small or how large is our income. We gain peace of mind and freedom from fear and worry about our finances by realiz ing that our true supply comes through us in the form of ideas. Nothing can take away what is our divine right, but only WE can claim what is our own by enlarging our faith and our vision. It is helpful in gaining a larger understanding of pros perity to realize that God’s uni verse is orderly and exact, and that it holds unlimited good for His children. Men have of ten thought that if some are to have plenty, others must go without -- but this could not possibly be a part of God’s plan, a God who is our GOOD and JUST Father. In God there is freedom from want, for “He maketh me to lie down in green pastures .. beside still wat ers,” and the abundance that we enjoy is not only an abun dance o' physical food, drink, and substance, but an abundance of spiritual blessings as well. “The works of Jehovah are great .. and His righteousness endureth forever.” - Psalms 111:2,3. within the diocese to “make special efforts to recruit Ne gro students.” The resolu tion noted that schools, though unsegregated' by policy, have enrolled only five Negroes in 14 years.
