DEAR SALLY
BY SALLY SHAW
DEAR SALLY: I’m a felloe
of 1 < in the doghouse with my
girls’ father. A couple of even
ings ago she had a baby-sitt
ing job and since it was on a
school night I figured she would
be home at least by 11:30. So I
phoned her home at that time,
just to cnat and say goodnight,
but her fattier answered the
phone and really blew his fuss!
He told me that any fellow who
would phone a girl' at that time
of night wasn’t fit to have any
thing more to do with his daugh
ter -- then tie hung up on me.
So what do I do now? This is
a wonderful girl, and It’s going
to tear me to pieces losing out
with her this way. OFF LIMITS.
DEAR OFF LIMITS: Your
girl’s father had a very good
point. Your phoning her at 11;-
30 was way out of line. I sug
gest that you go to him im
mediately, admit you were
wrong, and tel! him how sorry
you are. Let him see that you
really are a young man of prin
ciples, man enough to admit
your errors, and maybe he’ll
relent. Good luck!

DEAR SALLY: I am plann
ing my wedding, and have a lit
tle problem in protocol that
puzzles my. My parents were
divorced about ten years ago,
and although my father still
lives in this city I have seen
him only about a dozen times
all these years and have no
feeling of love or respect for
him. I certainly do not want
him giving me away at my
wedding, although for the sake
of old times and the fact that
he is my father, I should like
him to be present as a guest,
Would this be all right, and
would it lie all right for me to
have a very dear bachelor friend
of mine and my mother’s per
form the rite of giving me a
way? OCTOBER BRIDE.

Q - I converted my World
War n National Service Life
Insurance to a Modified Life
Plan several years ago and
was advised at that time that
the policy would not partici
pated in dividends. I recently
received a dividend on the po
licy. Was this a mistake? Must
I return the dividend check?
A- It was no mistake and
you can keep the check. The
dividend you received on your
Modified Life Plan was due to
interest earnings. If existing
interest levels continue, you
may expect similar dividends
in the future. You will receive
any dividends to be paid on or

DEAR SALLY: I am very
much concerned about my son
and his wife, who permit their
13-year-old daughter to take
baby-sitting jobs. It’s my idea
that a girl of 13 is quite too
young for such an important
and responsible job as caring
for small children while their
parents are away. Do you think
it would be all right fqr me to
try to reason with my son
and daughter-in-law about this,
or isn’t it any of my business?
GRANNY.
DEAR GRANNY: No, it ISN'T
any of your business. Your son.
and his wife evidently consider
their daughter perfectly capable
of handling the job, and the
parents who hire her must think
the same way. So, rather than
being so dubious, I think you
should be proud of your grand
daughter.

DEAR SALLY: Ten months
ago I married a widower with
a son of 17 who lives with us.
He's a very nice young man
and we get along fine, but the
thing that bothers me is that
my husband and I never seem to
go anywhere without his son’s
tagging along to a movie,
a country club dance, a drive
in the country, or even on week
end trips. My husband is a wond
erful man, affectionate, devoted
to me -- if only he would realize
that I would love going out with
him sometimes ALONE, just
the two of us. Have you any ad
vice for me? CHAPERONED.
DEAR CHAPERONED: How
about discussing this with your
husband, just as you have writ
ten to me? Maybe he'll feel
flattered over the knowledge
that you want him alone , -
and will do something about it.

Q - I haven’t received an ed
ucational assistance allowance
check from the Veterans Ad
ministration for the two weeks
in June that 1 was in school.
Will this be included In my
check for September when I am
back In college?
A- The reason you didn’t re
ceive a check for the two weeks
you were in school in June is
that you failed to complete and
return to the VA regional Of
fice indicating your Certifica
tion of Attendance Card. The
first check after you return to
school in ttie fall will probably
arrive in mid-November, but
will Include payment for school
ing from the day classes re
sumed through October.
