State University RALEIGH - The North Caro lina State University extension program in truck driver train ing, which has graduated more than 6.000 students in its 21- year history, held graduation ex'ercises recently for 16 stu nts The program was established at NCSU in 1040 under the di rection of Russell M. Haynie Jr. to teach safety, mainten ance and driving skills to men who are the mainstay of the na tion’s vital trucking industry. A five-man staff provides concentrated instruction during intensive four-week courses conducted throughout the year for those interested in pursu ing a career in driving and for supervisors in the trucking in dustry. The only university-operated program of its kind, training is divided between the class room, the training field and the open highway. Truck donated b\ the truck ing industry are used for train ing in the program which is otherwise self-supporting.
