NASHVILLE, Tenn.-"lnvad ers from the Black Nation,’ a study of the "Black Muslims” in 1970, concludes that on its 40th anniversary, the black separatist Islamic movement is "one of the most stable black institutions in the United States." The study also states that the current black mood-which the Muslims no longer are re garded as threats to racial pro gress-.may be conducive tothe further growth of the religious organization. "Invaders from the Black Nation" was released today by the Race Relations Information Center, a private, nonprofit journalistic research agency in Nashville, It was written by Bernard E, Garnett, a staff writ er for the Center. The report examines the in triguing movement a decade af ter the shocking rehetoric of Muslim leader Elijah Muham mad and the late Malcolm X (at the time, one of Muhammad’s most favored disciples; made "Black Muslim" a household word from coast to coast and spurred some journalists to label Muhammad's flock "the angriest Negroes." Despite the characteristic secrecy of top Muslim officials, some ‘insights Into the black Islamic denomination were gleaned through inspection tours of Muslim farms in Ala bama~-where a bitter racial feud erupted late last year-- and Georgia, and businesses in Chicago, site of Muslim head quarters; as well as from Mu hammad's Message to the Blackman in America, which spells out basic religious doc trine of the movement. i'he report cites the growth of the Lost-Found Nation of Islam, whose followers com monly are known as "Black Muslims," though they reject the color designation, since its founding in 1930, The Nation of Islam is seen as .j ,;.n, lion-doll ar organ, an . thriving businesses an... country and a newspap, *p hammad Speaks, boastiia weekly circulation of ove; hr,- 000. DEAR READERS, Personally, I feel that tny experiences here and one of the greatest thrills in my life, should be shared among tny fellow co-workers (in French) who like I, have longed through the years to see and visited France. Here, may I say many, many thanks to my husband who gave me this trip as a Christmas gift and the A ATE. (American Association of French Teach ers). During my trip over with no particular place to reside in mind, two things were decided upon; (1) to reside in various areas of Paris, to observe, lis ten and study the Parisiens way of life, and (2) seek informa tion concerning the foreign language curriculum in the elementary and high schools here in Paris. It seems unbelievable as I sit here at tills window of Hotel Claude Bernard, 43 Rue Des Ecoles (having studied about him) and write such. It is lo cated in the Latin Quarter with ing walking distance from the Sorbonne and Ecole des Beaux Arts. Prior to my arrival here there was very little walking done, but to observe it has been done mostly by foot. However, quite enjoyable with so much to see that I’ve read about. My first journey began Sunday morning, Fathers’ Day. It was eleven o’clock when I heard chimes. I got dressed and started walking. Within four of five blocks, I wandered sur prisingly in front of Notre Dame. What a feeling! My cam era started action. Upon enter ing I lighted a candle and made a prayer at an altar and pro ceeded to take picture of the exterior including the priest and congregation as they chanted. On my way out pinching my self, I walked all around No tre Dame photographing. On my back to the hotel I read a sign “Louvre” pointing straight a head along the Seine River, which divides Paris left and right banks. Here I became all educated and kept walking a long the Seine, observing pos ters, fishermen, etc., until I readied Pout Carrousel where I crossed over to the Louvre, world’s greatest museum, to see Mona Lisa, Venus de Milo and others.
