Hundreds Attend Deb Bali Turn back the years of 1937, when 11 young women were pre sented by the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority at the old Arcade Hotel, and in 1947 the same sorority presented its first Debutante Ball at the Raleigh Memorial Auditorium. It was Nov. 27, thirty-three years later, 86 young women, beautifully gown ed in traditional white and carrying red roses were pre sented to hundreds of guests from all parts of the state of North Carolina and other out of-state friends. The names on the program were those of families who had presented their older daughters and relatives in the early be ginnings of the ball; others were new family names. Mothers, sisters and other relatives have taken their places in the Deb Ball tradition that goes on an nually at the Thanksgiving sea son as families and friends plan their reunions. Since the ball has been in existence, hundreds of young women have been pre sented and thousands of words have been used to describe the beauty of the ball. Stressing scholarship, the debutantes are selected by a criteria established by the sor ority and from recommenda- wm mm STRAIGHT BOURBON WHISKEY 101 PROOF 8 YEARS OLD SOBS |1; s£ss $$ .IK.
