A war rant, charging assault with a deadly weapon, has been sign ed against Mr. Alston. *** THIEF CAUGHT James William Pierce, an employee of McCrory’s Stores, 230 Fayetteville Street, told Officer F. W. Mitchell at 5:18 p.m. Monday, that Miss Cynthia Louise Wilson, 16, 1109 Smith field Street, took one pack of hair ties, valued at ninety-sev en cents, and put them into her pocket book, then started to leave the store, when he stopped her. The girl was charged with larceny. *** SHAW STUDENT ATTACKED Miss Karen P. Evans, 18- year-old Shaw University stu dent, reported to Officer D. B, Pulley at 5:30 p.m. last. Mon day, that she was walking past South Hall on the campus, (which has been closed since the construction of the New Men’s Residence Hall), when she was attacked by a colored male, whom she identified as Joseph Bowser, 19, a resident of the new men’s dorm. She said she was beaten, choked and threatened with a pistol. She suffered a bruised arm and neck. No other information was listed. *** DRINK BOTTLE USED Miss Viola Horton, 26, 211 N. State Street., told a cap at 5:33 a.m. Thursday, that while she was walking down the street, she was assaulted and struck on the head with a drink bottle by an unknown colored male. The woman said she was from New York City and didn’t know anything about Raleigh, therefore she didn't know where the incident took place. She al so said she didn’t get a good look at the subject and refused to give the officer any more information. She was treated at Wake Memorial Hospital for a one and one-half inch cut on the top of the head. *** BEATEN WITH STICK Robert Lane Ward, 22, 1327 Walnut Street, informed twoof cers at 8:05 p.m. Friday, that he is an employee of the FCX, 121 E. Davie Street. He said he was attacked with a stick, from behind, by Marvin Barns, white male, about 30, who is also employed at FCX. He said the blow knocked him out “cold”. Ward claimed, al so, that he was beaten all over his body by Barns. He was ad vised to sign an assault with a deadly weapon warrant** gainst his assailant. Ward suf fered damage to the hip and head injury.* ATTACKED, ROBBED William Hinton, 43, 417 Solar Drive (Apollo Heights), told a cop at 11:28 p.m. Friday, that he was coming home from the Kwik-Pik Store o_ri Poole Road. Mr. Hinton then went home and called “the law”. The walet contained $lO, according to the complainant, who was bleeding from abra sions of the head. The incident occured at Peyton Street’s in tersection with Poole Road. *** MAN ASSAULTS WOMAN Miss Emma Jean Harris, 35. 605 Juno Court, (Apollo Heights), reported to Officer W. E. Atkinson at 3:10 a.m. Sat urday, that she and Harry Rich ards, 23, were having a “fuss” when he began hitting her with his fists and kicking her. The woman said Richards lived at her house, but left .after he beat her. She also stated that she would sign an assault on a fe male warrant against Richards, who allegedly works at Ball en tire's Restaurant in Cameron Village. Miss Harris’ lips were burst and she complained of pain in the left side. The fight took place at her house. *** OFFICER SEES BOUT Officer Floyd Lee Rountree reported at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, that John Lenwood Ratliff, 48, 548 E. Cabarrus Street, and Miss Vivian Mitchell, 38, 500 S. East Street, were fighting in the 400 block of E. Davie Street. The officer said Ratliff finally knocked Miss Mitchell down. Ratliff then proceeded to “solit the scene”, but was arrested, along with Miss Mitchell, for engaging in an affray and public intoxication. Miss Mitchell’s face was scratched in several places. Displaying whiskey il legally was also tacked onto the charges against Ratliff. *** ASSAULTS COP Officer Donald Raymond Turnage reported at li a.m. Friday as follows: "l arrest ed Andy Edward McClain for public intoxication in the 300 block of Fayetteville Street and took him to Wake County Jail. Subject was very disorderly and used a lot of profanity. After booking McClain, he was told to go with the jailer.
