The opening song and prayer and scripture were giv en by the superintendent. The subject of the lesson was “God’s Call To Ethical Living.” The background scripture was from Amos. The memory selectior. was “Seek good, and not evil; that ye may live and so the Lord, the God of hosts, shall be with you.” Amos 5:14. Following Sunday School we assembled for Worship Serv ices at 11:30 with the Gospel Chorus In charge of the Music and accompanied by Mr. Char lie Prince. The scripture was read by Rev. H. L. Liggette; offered by Mr. Robert Bass, followed by the Missionary of fering. The Juniors Ushers were on duty for Worship serv ices. Announcements were made by Mrs. Jean Stark. On our sick list: Mrs. Mammie Ray, Mr. Cezer Baker, Mrs. Flossie Thorpe, Mr. Coldon Salient ine, Mr. Oiha Johnson. The pastor Rev. N. A. L, Timble lake and Gospel Chorus from Oxford, N. C. will render services, Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. the Chalk Level Gospel Chorus celebrated its 33rd anniver sary on program, The Clouds of Joy from Siler City, Poplar Springs Gospel Chorus, St. Au gusta Gospel Chorus, Cutts Chapel, Angie r; Happyland Gospel Singers, Fuquay; Joy ettes Gospel Singers, Grpen Chapel Junior Chorus from Lil lington, Sunlight Gospel Chorus of Erwin. The first prize was a cake and the cake went to the Poplar Springs Gospel Cho rus. Second prize, a beautiful fruit basket which went to St. Augusta Gospel Chorus. A week of services ‘are in progress at the Church of God for all peo ple on Longfellow St., Fuquay- Varina. Mr. and Mrs. John Lipscomb attended the funeral of his niece Saturday in Durham. Funeral Services were held for Mrs. Elizabeth Reesce at the Neil Grove Holiness Church. Burial was in Glenview Ceme tery. Celebrating birthdays this month are Mr. Norrie Sneed. Mr. J, B. Sneed, Mr. Gaithen Wilson. Mr. Calvin G. Ceasar. The music was rend ered by the young adult choir with Mrs. Betty M. Lawrence at the piano. Rev. Jones deliv ered the message. For a text he chose John 3:16. His theme was “There Is A Love That Is Greater Than Mother’s Love.” Our visi to r s included Bernard Cotton of Philadelphia, Pa. The Community Male Chorus appeared on a program at St. Mary’s Freewill Baptist Church in Apex during the after noon. The YWA Club of First Bap tist Church held its monthly meeting at the church at 5 p.m. On Sunday night we returned to the United Church of Christ with the May Birthday Club in charge. Mrs. Dorothy Prince is captain and Mr. John McNeil, co-captain. The guests were Rev. White and his people from Christian Chapel United Church of Christ. Bro. White delivered the message. The up surge in applications shows that the volunteer spirit still runs strongly.” Applications for the Peace Corps totaled 19,180 as of the week ending April 23. Last year’s total was 19, 022 —a four year low. With four months of recruiting still to go—August completes the recruiting year--applications are ex pected to reach a total of 26, 000. Thus the 1971 total also should exceed the 1969 total of 24,299 applications. The Peace Corps now has some 8,000 Volunteers and trainees in approximately 60 developing nations.
