Mrs. Thompson was a first
grade teacher In the Washing
ton Elementary School for a
number of years, and, in 1951,
was made Raleigh’s first
Reading Consultant and Spe
cial Teacher, working at Cros
by-Garfield, Lucille Hunter
and Washington Elementary
Schools. She is now a teacher
In ‘he Cincinnati Public School
system.
Mrs. Thompson Is a member
of the United Christian Church
(Disciples), a Sunday School
teacher and chairman of
Christian Education Board,
Married to Mr. Roland Thomp
son, Music Instructor for tha
Cincinnati Public School sys
tem, .she Is the mother of a
teenage daughter.

The monthly meeting of the
Les Brave* Junior Women’s
Club met Saturday, April 24
at the home of Mrs. Eloise
Green with the president, Mrs.
Trice, presiding. Plans were
formulated for our trip to the
mountains during the summer,
Merlyn Lytle volunteered to
represent the club at the state
convention to be held in Rockv
Mount. Our president attended
the district meeting on Sunday,
April 25 at North Carolina Cen
tral University in Durham,

elegantly.

liams, Merlyn Lytle, Johnsie
Woods, Naomi Leak. Lennle

NINE AND FIVE CLUB
The Nine and Five Club had
its April meeting at the YWCA,
554 E. Hargett St. Saturday
night. Mrs. Bessie M. Wesley
was the hostess, assisted by
Mesdames Hazel Will ia ms,
Ruth Bethea and Geneva P,
Brown.
The meeting was presided o
ver by the president. She call
ed attention of the members to
think of an activity that they can
engage in during the summer.
This report is to lie given at
the May meeting. The minutes
were read and the roll called
to collect dues. The report of
the treasurer was given. Both
reports were received and en
dorsed.
There were many types of
games played. So many mem
bers did so well, there were
too many to give prizes.
Mrs. Wesley served a del
ectable repast to the following
members: Mesdames Bertha
Wilcox, Anne W ebb, Sara Sharp
er, Helen Mitchell, Mary Ma
rable, Emma Jones, Alma Har
rison, Cornelia Cobb, Ruth Be
thea and Geneva P. Brown.
The members are missing
Mrs. Lovie Ellis Alston from
the meetings, due to Illness.

Mrs. Bei-tha Wilcox in May.
