Children with misarti culatory, language, and voice problems are given therapy in dividually and in small groups in a public school system. Usually, the practitioner tra vels by automobile to work with children needing help with their speech and language problems of a very serious nature. The speech pathologist is not a speech improvement teacher, but rather a therapist working with deep-seated communica tion problems. Since 10", FAMU’s program has graduated 190 speech therapists. It has trained 90 per I cent of the black therapists [ in the state of Florida. More than this, its speech therapy trainees are working now in Al abama, Maryland, Virginia, South Carolina, Georgia and Minnesota. At the end of four years, a student graduates with the B. S. degree in speech pathology. Dr. Marcus H. Roulware, program director, will be glad to send interested high school students information a Unit this pro gram.
