Second, not the DEAR SALLY BY SALLY SHAW DEAR SALLY: I have been going with a man for about five years and things are just as “friendly’' as they were when we began dating. Never anything “personal’’ from him. We just “date.’ Don’t you think it’s time I knew one way or another where we re head ed? I’m very fond of him and haven’t been dating anyone else, but since I’m 28 and still con sidered very attractive, I feel time's awasting. RESTLESS, DEAR RESTLESS: After five years of exclusive dating, it’s far more than past time you knew this man’s intentions. Ask him -- that is if you really are interested in a “perma nent relationship’’ with such a “friendly” man. ♦ * * DEAR SALLY: We have been married for 12 years and during this time have managed to get involved in a social routine that has now become boring to us and quite too expensive, too. It was lots of fun at first, these cocktail parties, night clubing, et. al., but now we would like to ease off. But how can we begin refusing invi tations without offending our friends? How do we get off the merry-go-round? FED UP. DEAR FED UP: I know just what you mean. Interests do change as time marches on, and the things you found so fascinat ing early in your marriage can well bore you 12 years later. The only way to get off the merry-go-round is simply to step off. It may take a bit of “won’t power’’to begin refusing invitations--but that’s the only way to do it. * * * DEAR SALLY: My wife and I are expecting our first child soon, and her parents, whom I love almost as much as my wife does, have created a dif ficult little problem for us. The’, have asked that we name the baby for one of them (de pending of course on whether it will be a boy or girl). Just how can we handle this deli cate little situation without hurting these people’s feelings? SOON A DAD. DEAR SOON: How about us ing their names as middle names? Middle names almost invariably end up as initials (which saves the child some em barrassment) -- but at the same time you’ll be making the ori ginal bearers of these names happy. * * * DEAR SALLY: A very at tractive young woman in our neighborhood lost her husband in a car accident about a month ago. She has had of course a lot of callers and a lot of cars parked in her driveway-- but the one car I’ve noticed parked there most frequently is our minister’s car -two and often three times a week. I’m not saying anything is wrong, but I do feel he’s stretching his duties a bit too far and running the risk of gossip. What do vou think? GOOD NEIGHBOR, DEAR NEIGHBOR: If you're so much worried about the risk of gossip, you can cut this down by starting on yourself! It is certainly a part of every clergyman’s duties to give spiritual comfort to bereaved persons, and you should be ashamed of your suspicious in terpretations.
